The demo for the console IL2 is up on the 360 marketplace (possibly psn as well, hard to say without owning a ps3).
Its surprisingly good given the limitations of the controller, its never going to genuinely compete with a PC copy of IL2 complete with a sweet HOTAS setup and TrackIR but knowing what they had to work with, I'm not sure they could have made it any better. I think they did a hell of a lot better job converting this to a controller than most developers have done converting RTS'
To be honest I don't think I'll play it on anything harder than the arcade mode, at least not for a while but arcade seems to have a fairly decent balance of difficulty to fun, I personally never got shot down because I'm awesome but I was just watching a mate of mine playing it and he managed to get damaged and shot down relatively easily.
I've not tried the realistic or simulation difficulty levels yet but I plan to give them a go soon and be amusingly awful
