Cheat codes? It looks like a special move from a console fighting game. "Yeah, you just have to press U, D, L1, R2, Triangle, Triangle, Circle, R, R, D, Square, L2, and then you'll punch the guy in a slightly different way than if you'd just pressed X". One reason I always loathed those games.

Cheat codes like the one in Dragon Ball: Ultimate Battle 22 ---> Up, triangle, down, X, left, L1, right, R1

I have to say that my first thought when seeing it was a combo from Tekken. Those did end up being pretty spectacular when you finally managed to pull them off
They could have added things like "complete an arcade bullet curtain shooter spending less than 20 bucks" or "realised that 'its like the arcade at home' was slightly less than true"

I only remember the cheat code to Shining Force 2: UDUDLRLRURDLU-B+START
Possibly a few combos from a couple of fighting games.
----
I used to want to slap the person playing against me when they would move wildly with the controller. Motion Control is now being capitalised on, so finally they have a reason to do it, but it sure annoyed me as a kid ;)

Would have been great to see potential achievements for a lot of old games... Instead of these gags.

AND it gives you the chance to "accidently" slip and crack your annoying opponent in the side of the head

Jumping without moving the controller: that was a proud day for me. What a strange phenomenon. I have not noticed that phase in the younger generations.

Well, it will be kinda hard to get those achievements. Old games were much more difficult than today's games.

And not always for the better either, many old games were built with the arcade coin vaccuum mindset and were more annoying than fun
