Hey all

Firstly, I know some folk will suggest some GOG.com games but that isnt what im interested in just now, i have the ones I want at the moment and the latest wave of released havent been all that exciting for me. (Except Deus Ex)

So I was having a snoop on some retail and DD sites, an I want to ask you all your opinions on either AC:R or Kingdoms of Amawhateveritscalled.

I like the AC series and have heard good things and bad about both games, I dont mind if its steam but if its always online I dont want to know.

So there are those 2, any others i should look into along the same genre lines?

AC:Revalations is basically an expansion pack for AC:Brotherhood, which was in turn a finessing of AC:2. So don't expect anything new from Revalations (ironic given the name), and I'm afraid they don't make any more sense of the plot, they just trip it along a bit. However there are a few new toys in things like the bombs, the level design is good, you get to climb up a load of highly realistic turkish buildings, and it's not bad to have more of the same. If you completely exploit all the features then there's about 35hrs play, then if you're anything like me you'll feel you're done with it. Overall I enjoyed it.

I didn't notice if the DRM was always online (it didn't cause me problems, but my internet's good), but it does tie into the uPlay thing that they have, and the game has to be launched through their client (steam just opens up the Ubisoft client). So if your DRM concern is of the 'what if I want to replay once Ubisoft servers are gone' variety, probably best to avoid.

AC Revelations isnt that good. Played AC 1 & 2 and also Brotherhood to completion. Revelations though just doesnt feel right and its now just sat on the shelf gathering dust until I trade it in, wont be finishing it.

Got Kingdoms of Amalur myself and its a great game, there has been a lot of work put into it with it being a new I.P. Its kind of like Fable with the combat but the overall setting is more gritty, its also a HUGE game so you are getting your moneys worth. You can also play it on a gamepad if you wish so can just sit back and enjoy it.

I can't tell you anything about Kingdoms of Amalur.

AC:R wasn't worth the money. I got bored before I even made it to 30 minutes of play. (And I made it to a decent point for 30 minutes)

I suggest Hello Kitty Adventure Island. The little girls on that game will make you cry yourself to sleep

If you've played SPAZ, Bastion, and Sequence then any of your other choices are fine (and if you don't have them all 3 should set you back less than the price of a single titled above).

I dont have a problem with origin further than I dont want yet another account with another company.

@Orcish to be honest I dont care if it cost $2 or is a new release, I just need something to take my mind off the last week, simply due to my internet connection being shit and slow ill likely get whatever it is retail anyway so theres that too, Pre ordered borderlands 2 today but theres a bit of a wait i think :-|

Arkham City is amazing single player fun. Deus Ex HR (which I'm guess you've played) likewise.

But really, play Sequence (it's the shortest), then Bastion, then SPAZ. Don't feel bad if any don't suck you in, just move on if it's not really your thing. You've got a week for sure there.

Defense Grid, if you missed it somehow, will also keep you busy for some time.

Honestly, last year was a bit underwhelming for games. I'd also recommend some older titles, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom (both console only).

I can recommend some XBox Live Arcade games if you have the ability to download and play them.

Beyond that I'm reading Jane McGonigal's "Reality is Broken" and it's a really positive book about video games and human nature. The paperback version just came out, you can get it for under 10 bucks.
