stellathestud10: Nice use of Neil Gaiman in the background. You have excellent taste! And congratulations on the new computer!

doccarnby: I say this whilst looking around feverishly, but I never finished that one. I have however read American Gods, so I guess it's a wash.
American Gods is a great read, and if you have the free time, Neverwhere is also very good. One of my favorite authors.

KingOfDust: We need pics! and performance reports!

doccarnby: Still setting her up. Made a System Repair Disc, now I'm clearing up the pre-installed stuff. Will report back when done.

Edit: Took a picture. Serenity's the new one in front. In the back is Colleen, poor girl. She's been through a lot, been worked hard, and has always tried her best. Rest now, Collie, you can rest now.
You name your computers?
Congratulations

I do too. I get this from IT managers when I connect to their networks:

Q: What's this computer called "Kerouac" doing on my network?
A: It's mine.
Q: Why do you have a computer called "Kerouac"?
A: Because it goes on the road with me.

Everyone's computer has a name, but people don't usually give their computers and related devices an affectionate name. Imagine the weird looks you'd get if you called your mouse Minnie.
Congrats mate! Just to point out, the 2G on GPU is pointless... Google it and you will know what I mean, it's just a gimmick that manufactures try to cash on people aren't into hardware.
Just installed and played a bit of F.E.A.R. Maxed things out, ran beautifully. It has, however, been a while since I played it. I got killed in Interval 02.

doccarnby: Quick question, it has switchable graphics, and since I only intend for Serenity to be unplugged for little bits at a time, I'd like her to mainly use the dedicated card. How do I go about that?

Edit: Or should I not bother messing with that? Will it automatically detect when it needs to use the dedicated card?
if you right-click on the desktop, you will get an option to switch graphic modes

if you want to define rules, you can do so via catalyst

The catalyst control center will basically offer you two options
- switch based on application needs
- switch manually or based on power source
Congratulations on the new device! :-D

I actually give "affectionate" names to my laptops too, but desktops only get silly names for some reason. Maybe because laptops feel more personal.

I'll give you a dirty secret: back when I got my Amiga 500 computer (with a monitor and all the stuff), I had been looking forward to it so badly and was so happy to finally get it, that I actually gave it a kiss when I took it out of the box. I think I kissed the monitor in fact, not the main unit (keyboard). Monitor felt more like the "face" of the computer, I think I wasn't willing to go to the second, third or even the fourth (?) base on first date.

I wasn't sexually aroused or anything, but maybe I should have been. I think we should have a thread about everyone's affectionate moments with their gaming devices. Maybe it could be merged with the "Your favourite sex position?" query.
