Could we rename the thread "Blowing Off Steam, Whining About Whiners, Epic Law... oh, and Humble THQ Bundle" and sticky it?
I'm wondering how much more fucked THQ would have to be to accept DRM free option for even some of their games.

Interplay level fucked?

They'd have to kick out the same asshats who thought DLC milking and season passes were a good economic strategy.

SimonG: That is correct (well, I do cases that affect me.) I would actually be liable by simply claiming to be a lawyer (which I never do, I'm just tired of correcting people). I like "legal professional" a lot more. I swore to myself that I would never be a lawyer. I had to work as one before my bar exam, but that is it. (Also I got some really tasty job offers at the moment. And I am somewhat bored professionally. ....

htown1980: I thought that was the case. I wasn't trying to be disparaging, just thought that should be cleared up. For the same reason you don't claim to be a lawyer, I am always uncomfortable when I see others call someone a lawyer when they are not.

Maybe in future if I feel the need to correct something i will start with:

annoying legal perspective follows: or something similar, but maybe I will just keep out of such discussions in future.
Good thing I used the horribly imprecise wording "he's a lawyer or something". Phew. Looks like I nearly got myself into legal trouble!

I am sure we can classify lawyers as things - makes sense in a way.

I really don't get that.

Most of the DLC was purely aesthetic and completely optional. The few "content DLCs" weren't more than in any other game.

As long as you don't have a "I want ALL DLC OCD" there really was no reason to buy all of it.

I think this is a valuable marketing model. More options for those who want it with no drawbacks for those who ignore it.

I think everyone wants to have a "Complete" edition of a game they like. Which is very hard with the amount of DLC that THQ chose to go with. You don't have to have OCD for that. Personally I think it's quite natural.

But what does that give you in actual value? It's like downloading all mods for Skyrim. It is pick and choose. DLCs of this kind are like "professional mods". You can choose to buy them, but you don't have to.

If you look at other gaming venues, like tabletop, nobody is going to buy all GW models. You pick what you like. As long as the core game itself isn't cut to pieces because of this, I see no drawback. And with SR and the DoW/SM games, I didn't see any indication that they were.

In the end, cutting those DLCs means less to choose from for the customer.

but they're official!

without them you'll always feel that some other people might be playing the game with a different sword that you don't have! (the sword may suck but that's not the point)

you clearly don't understand this :D (I don't either, it just is like that)

Nah. I love Skyrim but I wouldn't buy the house DLC for even a dollar. I liked Saint's Row 3 a lot but I would never buy the cosmetic outfit BS and even have ignored the small mission add-ons because they sound lame.

Needing to get all the DLC is consumerist obsession, not natural.

SimonG: Can everybody agree on this?
NO!
avatar
Gersen: You paid to be able to re-download the games... and yet you cannot re-download them without being logged, do you call that DRM ? after all you are missing on the "full functionality" if you are not logged.
avatar
SimonG: It is quite clearly DRM. But is is not tied to the game.
Are you both serious? If I could download a DRM-free installer from Steam, it wouldn't be considered DRM.To deny that is to be missing the point and definition.

Phew, and here I thought this thread is going to die. SimonG, you're attack, COME AND DEFEND YOURSELF
Going off topic here for a second to say

630,000 bundles sold, 3.53 million dollars raised so far. Just under 8 days left.

Looking like its going to be close between this and HiB5 for total sales value.
