bevinator: So have they officially said that they're never going to do DRM-free multiplatform indie bundles anymore?

Cause the Frozen Synapse bundle only had one game in it, and everybody thought the world was ending, and then every other bundle since then has been the same as always. That one bundle was unusual but it didn't start a new dynamic or anything.

It just seems a little Chicken Little in here.
No, they haven't done that but this will signficantly hurt their efforts to put such bundles together since all the hesistant devs will be expecting the same treatment as THQ has gotten in this one.
It just seems a little Chicken Little in here.
Well that is just another way of saying that I and others are being realistic and not naive.

Yes. They said we're all hippes and they don't like us any more. Also they said that we were ugly and that our mommas dressed us funny.

How dare you! Chicken Little was a saint!

Kristian: That a view is extreme doesn't mean it is wrong.
Your view is that Humble Store selling pay what you want, charity-supportive DRM-free multiplatform titles makes them perfect, while doing the same with Steam, Windows-only titles makes them "just another souless, moneygrabbing company abusing charties to get $$$." There's plenty of wrong with your particular extreme views and I'm sorry if you're not able to see that.

gameon: I have no idea what that's all about. A reference from the movie? I've seen it, but i don't know what it has to do with a game only having one bundle in it, lol.

The story, and variations on it, predate the 2005 movie by a couple millennia.

I understand now, it's because Kristian was making prophecies about DRM free dying out, hence "the sky is falling" reference from chicken little.

I never knew the story was that historic. I guess they did the same sort of thing with the lion king.
If I was in charge of Humble Bundle Inc and got approached my THQ over this and they refused to do a DRM free, cross-platform bundle. I would have tried to change their minds by among other things finding games that re easier to port and to point to various advtanges they could get from such a deal in terms of good will and what not. If that was unsuccessful I would have put out a press release saying that THQ wanted to do a bundle but they didn't want to play by the rules and that Humble Bundle could not be bought to change those rules for anyone but THQ was welcome to have bundle under the same terms as everyone else.

Edit:

Gameon, I did no such thing.

If they declined, why would you make a press release about it?
Public shaming + good PR from not selling out.

Edit:

The narrative I would try to build in public discourse is this: "THQ tried to buy/bribe the Humble Bundle but we are the incorruptible defender of DRM free, cross-platform gaming"

This would increase the good will and sympathy for Humble Bundle significantly.

Why would anyone want to do business with you when you demonstrate that you'll libel them if a deal falls through?

Bad PR from kicking a dying company while it's down+Acting Smugly superior

Well from reading others posts they were making it sound as if you were saying that because of the THQ bundle, it lessens the chance of future DRM free bundles.

Of course, feel free to explain what your point is.

Which is good when you are superior. But Humble Bundle is no longer superior but inferior. So it wouldn't be bad PR at all.

It really wasn't directed at him personally, but rather at the thread as a whole. We've got 700 posts so far, and about 600 of them are about the DRM situation rather than the bundle itself.

Yes, it's worrying, but I'm willing to let it slide if it's a one-time (or at least rare) occurrence. We won't know until the next bundle or an official press release, but I'm not at all convinced that they've given up their DRM stance, only compromised it because THQ is in trouble.

No, I think they just ripped off Kimba The White Lion there.

Yes I am well aware of that but they HAVE compromised it and that is gonna hurt their future efforts with regards to more "normal" bundles. Very much so.

Well it may or may not lessen the chance of future bundles of that kind but those bundles will now have to rely on games that are already DRM free and cross-platform because Humble Bundle Inc threw out there bargaining chip for getting more companies to agree to porting their games and making them DRM free, now those companies will want to get the same treatment as THQ.
