For strange animals, how about the Horned Lizard which as a defense mechanism increases the pressure in its head to the point where it sprays blood out of it's eyes at an attacker. Now if that doesn't say "I'm crazy so don't mess with me", I don't know what does.

My vote is for the platypus - weird egg-laying creature.

The pangolin is my personal favorite. It's like a dinosaur crossed with an anteater.

My favorite game in the genre is Civ IV. I'm trying to get the hang of Civ V, and I might just get won over by it eventually, but for now I just know that Civ IV has stolen more hours of my life than any other single game. And that means I've spent an awful lot of time listening to Leonard Nimoy intone quotations from history's greatest.
