Nothing as exciting, I'm afraid. I work in an industry that, put simply, bores me to death. But the pays better than that available in game translation and its ultimately less stressful. And at least you don't get lied to about being credited =)

Well, there's a lot of racial hostility (even if not openly expressed) towards Koreans, but then, they are even more hostile towards Japanese, so you get what you give in that respect.

With other Asians though, the problem isn't racist, it's just that they assume you to be Japanese. As an example, when I first studied over here, I used to go shopping with a Chinese/Malay girl who spoke and understood less Japanese than I did. Yet every time I spoke to shop staff, they would direct their answers to her - in Japanese - expecting her to answer. They'd get a little frustrated when they found she couldn't speak Japanese.

As for obvious foreigners, they'll assume you can't speak Japanese and will scurry off to find that one staff member who is "learning" English to help you. Even when you speak to them in Japanese.

Thankfully, I don't get that reaction much these days, perhaps I sound a little more native as it were. But I still get the odd Japanese come up to me to try and strike up conversation in English.

But ultimately, your use of a non-Japanese language isn't really going to cause concern. Especially, if you pass through Saitama/Gunma, there's a fairly large Brazilian presence.

The sort of German spoken in Hannover probably won't even betray something about the city or region you lived in and it's likely to be understood by all German-speaking people everywhere, while the same can't be said about the Bavarian or Austrian dialects. It might not be the most interesting or charismatic type of German, but certainly the most useful. And if you managed to pass off as a local, you're really good. Apart from my native tongue, I don't speak any language that good. :(

I speak Spanish as native language and English which is the one that I use mostly at work.
