I'm looking to get a GTX 780 to replace my now dead 7970 and I'm wondering who has better drivers?
That question is not really something that can be answered.
I don't understand your question.
The hardware is the main criteria for performance ... drivers can always be updated to make better use of it.
Then, yes, some games are 'sponsored' to work 'better' with one brand or the other ....but that's mostly marketting talk (and it really depends on the games you play).

In a nutshell, I don't think drivers dicussions are THAT important regarding playing GOGs, and there are place one the web far more suited to get those kind of information.

That was my 2 cents.

Probably depends on personal preference, but my own experience with the AMD drivers has been less than stellar. Apart from the constant crashing, they didn't allow me to create automatic profiles for individual games (I had to create specific to launch shortcuts instead). On top of that, the ATI control center was incompatible with a couple of games; they simply didn't run when it was active.

I can do that in my ATI controls I believe. I have never had a problem with AMD personally.
I've had best stability with NVIDIA drivers over the years. If money or power consumption isn't an issue and as a gamer I'd go with the 780 GTX for CUDA and PhysX as well.
Well i recently tried to play Martian Gothic before my AMD card died. And the screen was all messed up checkerboard like so i put in my old 8800 GT and the game worked fine. So that got me thinking about Drivers and what not.

They may have added it in the meantime, but just for clarification: In my nVidia driver, I can define a specific profile for any game, and the driver will load and apply that profile automatically when I start the respective game, no matter how I start it (Start menu, Windows Explorer, Games folder, shop client, etc.). That functionality was not available when I bought my last ATI card - there, I could create custom profiles, but I had to manually start the game with a specific shortcut, and manually switch the settings back to normal afterwards.

I'm aware that my personal experience with ATI _can't_ be the experience of everyone else - if it were, then ATI would long be out of business. ;)

I was pretty happy when I could return to an nVidia card. I gave the ATI card to The Woman Of My Dreams (tm), and while she was happy about the performance, she _also_ experienced graphics related glitches and crashes that she never had before. She just now has the money to upgrade her computer, and one of the things she's most happy about is that she can finally get away from ATI. Only problem is that we'll then have an ATI card lying around that nobody will ever use. We consider auctioning it off, but are reluctant to cause anyone else the same trouble we had.

:P
All the nVidia cards my computers used before my baby were pretty much broke within the first few months of use. Don't ask me how or why...
Forgot to add that I recently purchased this PNY GTX 680 and couldn't be happier with it. Nothing taxes it yet so you would definitely be alright with that 780 for awhile :)

Edit: Newegg has this -s model (instead of -cg) on sale with free Metro: Last Light

Nvidia driver have given me lots of shit in the past. AMD drivers crashed a couple games for a couple months before they finally fixed it.

They're both honestly hit and miss imo.
You can't go wrong with a high end nVidia card atm. I would recommend looking into 2 GTX 770 in SLI. If you can afford two of them, it's about the best performance to cost you can get atm; Otherwise the GTX 780 will be just fine

AMD/ATI's top card, the 7990 is basically built with 2 7970's and does not have optimized drivers at the moment. I have heard that AMD has more compatability and driver issues in multi-card functionality than nVidia cards, but i am not sure about with a single GPU.

It also sounds like the issue you had prior to the card dying was the card actually dying and not a driver issue. When a card dies, you often get screen anomalies and weird digitized non-specific lines in your display.

Yeah i thought that may have been the problem so i had a friend. Test the game on a similar setup and she had the same problem.
Don't spend too much in a high end GPU if you have a stock motherboard.

Don't worry my motherboard is fine.
