Yes, but the irony would be that you're German (or "in Germany" really, seeing how bansama's a brit if I remember correctly even though he's in Japan for the most part).
thelovebat: Probably because of the fact that PC games tend to have no region coding, meaning one version could be played in an entirely different country with no problems. Such as with games like Star Wolves or expansion packs exclusive to Europe.
This means that PC games will generally have a more worldwide appeal regardless of what regions they were originally released in since they'll be playable without having to hunt down a particular console like you would with a console game.
Or a proxy, address, and credit card from whatever country the game is available in, when buying a PC game from certain other digital distributors. This means that PC games will generally have a more worldwide appeal regardless of what regions they were originally released in since they'll be playable without having to hunt down a particular console like you would with a console game.

Its actually completely wonderful, surprising, and cool..
You could never imagine the places where there are isolated gamers/local gaming communites...like the south america, africa...the middle east...the far east..
Ive encountered warcraft III players from brasil and colombia..and australia, and kahazakstan!
its like hard rock...theres metal heads at every latitude on the planet :)
Since there was somebody from Germany in the posts above, I begin to wonder...how does gog.com deal with places that censor or ban violent games? Like Germany and Australia...

I can't say I notice it being more multinational than other communities I've been part of. More Poles, but other than that...

One other very important reason!
GOG is unique.
Abandonware sites and piracy ones are aplenty, so people from different countries usually pirate or torrent games from sites that speak their language. The same happens with PC gaming forums. You're likely to find forums like those dedicated to games from different platforms in your preferred language. Not so with Good Old Games. There is only one site like it and anyone looking to find any information about old PC games will eventually end up here. I know I haven't found any spanish speaking forum dedicated mostly to old games.
Not that I've been looking once I found GOG. :)

same here. If I find a game I used to play a demo of, maybe had a pirated copy of, I will definately buy it, to sponsor the developer or whoever owns it these days,..

Well, I'd say it doesn't do anything different at all in Germany. At least I haven't noticed anything yet. Also I think you somewhat overestimate the amount of banned and censored games in Germany with regard to the total amount of games available.

It's not so surprising on a larger forum, but yes it's surprising to see it in a forum this small.
I think it's down to the fact that most GOGs work on slower computers and as such they're going to attract more people from countries where the average person cannot afford to keep their computer up to date or afford the price tags of the latest games either. As such you're going to see a lot of people here who would probably feel left out in a forum about new games.

what I meant was... Will germans and aussies be able to purchase the "original" english/international version of a game? Just like anybody else? Doesn't that bypass their censorship laws? or does it? I just hope they get the full experiance, like the rest of us do.

I was just sort of joking about a comment about people's English skills where English isn't capitalized. Not like a serious structural flaw or one that prevents readability, I just find it ironic whenever somebody comments on grammar with a flaw of that sort.

That's what I meant by my post. There are no regional versions as far as GOG's concerned.

Because digital piracy is a worldwide phenomenon, not a localized one.
Wait, what?
Yeah, that's right, worldwide piracy is the reason GOG is so diverse in user nationality. I can't be the only one who discovered GOG because of an ad on an abandonware site, can I? I think it was Home Of The Underdogs where I saw a small banner ad for GOG & that was what brought me here.
So yeah, I think a great deal of it comes from gamer pirates whose only crime was to want an old game they couldn't find in-store (and weren't willing to pay $100 for on eBay) leeching from abandonware sites that advertised for GOG so they could purchase their classic games legally.
It was a win-win situation for everyone.

I wonder one thing. I think I've seen here almost every single nation from Europe (at least the major ones, not counting Andorra or Luxemburg or other "dwarves") but I think I haven't seen even one Austrian here. Have you seen any or are they somehow repulsed by this place?
