It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

BKGaming: You won't have to, Galaxy downloads only files that are changed.
I didn't know that, cool.

However, it doesn't still seem enough: those single .BIN files are already quite big!

If I remember correctly from a comment (I haven't used Galaxy beta myself) the client downloads the files unpacked, so there won't be any large bin files to begin with.

I don't know how they supposedly handle large game files though, but delta patching somehow seems unlikely to me.
I have to admit - I'm not completely familiar with the mechanics of the Galaxy system.

From the descriptions posted, it sounds like it functions in a similar manner to STEAM.

That's the say that it:

> Has to be installed =X
> Downloads the whole game files - unpacked - missing / changed files only downloaded etc
> Doesn't use any file comparison / compression / patching tricks
> Has the option of downloading the full installers (but we have that already ?!?)

None of these options sound particularly appealing - or like the perfect fix.

What would be good is if Galaxy could:

Download the complete game -> update it with changed files only -> and then rebuild into a newer GoG installer

I had a bit of play with the XDELTA system - with mixed results.

It seems to work best with EXE installers (not the BIN ones)

For example, I was able to produce a patch that could upgrade my BaK installer from:

setup_betrayal_pack_2.0.0.16.exe to

setup_betrayal_pack_2.0.0.17.exe

Size = 8MB~ (a 1GB download avoided if GoG were to use it!)

I also tried to update Stalker SoC from

setup_stalker_shoc_2.0.0.5 to

setup_stalker_shoc_2.1.0.7

But I ended up with a patch file that was larger than the download! =D

I didn't think this would work as the newer installer has all the data in a single BIN file - rather than the old installer which splits into two.

I'm convinced that a better solution is out there!

It will, doesn't yet but that is a planned feature.

It pretty much will be that, you can download the entire game unpacked (for now). Patches are only files that are changed. A backup feature is planned as well.

Shouldn't be any bin files really, Galaxy as of now downloads the entire game unpacked similar to Steam. Out of the patches I've downloaded, biggest I've seen is a few hundred MB for The Witcher Adventure Game.
