Nirth: I like the words on Moddb regarding strong story telling and evolving units but how close is release date? One of the developers wrote early alpha and that was February 19th.
Hey Nirth,

Currently we are at early alpha stage. We have playable demo ready.estimated time to develop the game is one year from now, depending on the funding we are be able to receive.

Early access would also be one option, if people would like to see it there. However my personal opinion would be to release the game when it's ready. If there is uncomplete features or parts of the world, story and cinematics are missing, it would break the immersion.

We are currently gathering player feedback and suggestions on the game, to get better picture if people would like to see this kind of game coming to Steam & GoG.

Currently we have eight people working fulltime in the Tampere offices. fifteen people if you count the voice actors and sound engineers.

Cheers

The thing that got me curious when I watched your video is the lack of hud, what kind of RTS you are trying to make.
If you had to make a comparison, is your game closer to:
- Myth, with the fixed set of unit approach and the minimal interface (you said unit improvement ?)
- Sacrifice, with the action and strategy oriented gameplay
- Dungeon Keeper, with a digging/expansion aspect (I saw digging in your video, but the 'commonalities' with DK doesn't seem to go further than that)
- C&C with some form of old school harvesting/base building (didn't see resource gathering)
- Something like overlord, filled with action and puzzles
- Something more accessible, story oriented.
- Something completely different.

I avoid facebook more than plague, and so far in your video I saw some gameplay hints, a clear setting, but the 'line of progression' of the game isn't clear at all.

I won't give you suggestions, as I am more tied to the turn-based crowd :)

Thanks. I'll keep an eye on it for reasons I mentioned earlier. Have you considered some kind of crowd funding?

hudfreegamer: You set up gameplay to work without a hud.
That's a terrible idea. Most sufficiently complex RTS games need to relay a lot of easily accessible information to the player. Building the game with an idea of playing it without HUD would obfuscate this essencial information quite badly. Why would you want to play an RTS without HUD anyway? It's not like RTS games are built for immersion...

Hey Potzato,

The Hud is hidden on the video, there will be key to toggle it on and off. We want to avoid hud taking too much of the playing view. Minimap and unit information is still very important, so i dont think there is a way to make the game user friendly without these features.

The closest example i can think of, is Homeworld/Starcraft 2/Dungeon Keeper 2 hybrid. You build a base and it works like a insect hive, workers gather different materials and bring those back to base. Buildings have dynamic evolution system. So for example, if you find plants and bring those to base. It changes appearance. Own units are able to pick up dead enemy gear as trophies.

The fishing you see on the video is one form of food gathering, there is two types of resources: Materials and Food. However different type of gatherable consumables count towards the same food count. Same goes for materials, you can gather gold, diamonds, iron, rocks, wood, plants and all those affect the material count.

Yes, Kickstarter and Indiegogo are one of the options. However we need to first see if there would be demand for this kind of game. So the best way to help us achieve these goals is to tell more people about the game.

All this feedback is very valuable to us!

Licurg: Looks promising, from what I saw . You guys gonna try to bring it to GOG ?
Yes, we would love to bring it on GoG if the staff supports it!

trentonlf: What is the purpose of the game? Expansion?

Is the music from the you tube video actual game music? It was a good selection
All the music we use is made by Mikael Immonen. He also made couple of the insectoid models and the barracks building.

Music draws inspiration from Homeworld series ambient music.

This looks interesting, I noticed on steam that this game is coming to pc and mac but as it's made on unity is it possible that it's also coming to linux?

hudfreegamer: It looks like an RTS. The only RTS game I ever liked was Myth.

However, this looks interesting if:

You support Windows XP and directx9
You set up gameplay to work without a hud.
You let players customize controls and include support for gamepads (like the xbox 360 controller).

There are other games with the name hive, like the board game (and it's videogame counterpart) and a first person shooter for the PS3. I don't know if that would cause problems.

Other alternative names are:
Swarm (although there's an xbox live arcade game with that name)
Hoard (although there's already a game with that name too)
Drones (like most warrior bees are drones and live in a hive).
Hive-mind
Drove
Hey hudfreegamer,

Yes unity supports XP and directx 9, i'm developing the game on my old 2006 computer. It runs smoothy on 40fps without optimization. So there should not be any problems.

Yes it is possible to change keys, quality settings, resolution, subtitles and audio channels. All the basic stuff you see on every other game.

Cheers

You are aware that GOG.com does not sell Steam keys and that a game needs to be 100% truly DRM-free to be sold on GOG.com, right?

Most games you find here are on Steam, true they don't sell Steam keys but so what? And there are games that are not DRM-free, they might include a cd-key which you have to use to actually be able play the game or register an account.

Would be so kind as to give us the full list of these games?

I'm curious myself. I have over 300 titles here and have haven't once needed a cd-key or to register. If by DRM you mean the computer has to be turned on to play them then I grant you that. :D

As I don't have the full list of games from GoG nor have time but like Two Worlds 2: Epic Edition if you have bought the game select it form your library it will show you a serial number which you can use, for other games you just have to read it from wikipedia or from somewhere else.
