Gonchi: I think Silver came out on the, Dreamcast was it? Or maybe the Saturn.
avatar
retro_gamer: Yes, it was on SEGA Dreamcast. I never knew it was also released for PC until it was released on GOG.com. :)
I got the PC version off eBay fairly cheap. I'd always thought it was a port, but apparently the PC version came out first.

I just looked on Wikipedia site of SILVER and yes, you're right. Very interesting. And all those years I though it was a Dreamcast exclusive. Never searched the internet about it though. :)
Can anyone who has Silver (either getting it from this thread or purchase it themselves) kindly post the md5 checksum of the installer please?

The MD5 checksum of "setup_silver_1.0.0.9.exe" is 2955709fd31d04680a07d1212d23b190.

Thanks. Mine is that too. I am still using the OLD GOG Downloader ('cause the new one that utilizes .NET Framework just does not work in my Linux workstation with Wine), and so I was wondering how come the md5 checksum given in the setup_silver_1.0.0.9.exe.crc is fe487e54282ec4ef160c2440f4461de3, and yet the file setup_silver_1.0.0.9.exe runs alright.

Anyway, thanks again! :-D

Each GOG installer comes with a built-in file integrity checker that, as far as I can tell is reliable enough. It's good practice to test the verification before storing them, anyway. I too am a Linux user annoyed at the use of the .NET Framework in the latest downloader. For what it's worth, on my Windows computer I've had trouble with it numerous times, especially with downloading the extras.

Unfortunately, you might not have much luck running it in Wine. The GOG version specifically has been given a "garbage" rating (in other words, somebody tested it very recently), and I had no luck with it when I tried, though I didn't put any real effort into searching for a solution, as I don't intend to play at the moment. I imagine you've probably tried it by now, though. Best of luck to you, at any rate.

Skunk:
Thanks. Unfortunately although I have used Linux in the last six years or so on daily basis at work, I never seem to advance much from my newbie status, so my "effort" is rather limited to trying it on vanilla Wine.

I spoke with Fallen_Zen the other day, voicing my opinions on this decision to use .NET Framework for the new downloader. Well, I guess all we can do is wait. Hopefully there will be support Linux and Mac downloader in the future.

wodmarach: apt-get install mono
I don't think it will work under mono, there are some native calls in the downloader that will fail under linux (or osx)

EDIT: tried with mono for windows (2.10.8) and it is not starting, I'll to investigate during lunch time

Late as usual, but +1 for the giveaway and congrats to the lucky ninjas.
Yes, IIRC a few people had already posted that the downloader won't work with Mono. Besides, I'd rather not have it on my comp if possible. Not going into the *religious* war, but let's say that the Mono debate a few years ago has left me rather reluctant to install it regardless of which side I follow.
