I've owned this game for many years, but I can't actually remember the last time it worked. Some time when I was young. The main problem is this: I can get the game installed all right, but whenever I try to run the game, all I get is a black screen. If I minimize the black screen, I see a window that says something about the game being unable to request some ungodly number of bytes.

Things I've tried:

- I installed the game into a file other than Program Files.

- I tried running as an administrator.

- I tried disabling both visual themes and desktop composition.

- I tried running in 640 x 480 resolution.

- I tried running in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP 3, SP 2, and Windows 2000.

None of them worked. Does anyone else have any suggestions? The game may not be the greatest (I can't actually remember; it has been a long time since I've played it) but there is quite a bit of nostalgia involved.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Also, my OS is Windows 7 32 bit.

This is a weird problem some people have regardless of the operating system (I tried the demo on Windows 7 64-bit and it works fine). Unfortunately there don't seem to be any definite fixes for this. Have you tried installing the [url=http://www.fileplanet.com/119999/110000/fileinfo/James-Bond:-Nightfire-v1.1-Patch]1.1 patch[/url]? It doesn't specifically say it fixes this but it's worth trying. :/

I last played it on Vista and it ran fine. I can try it on my current Win7 64bit machine for you if you like, but as Arkose said I don't think this is an OS issue, just a bug on some rigs that has been around since the game came out.

Usually these kinds of bugs which are not universal come down to drivers. I try and keep my gaming PC completely driver-free except the essentials just for this reason and I rarely have issues playing games. If I want to print, scan or whatever else I use my wife's laptop. Something to consider for the future ;)

Thanks for the replies. I kind of figured it was more than just an OS issue, because I've had the problem with XP, too. I'll probably try the patch later.
