2011 has been a fantastic year for GOG.com, let's make it even better and make the last push to achieve the 6 million unique downloaded games milestone.

During our presentation at the CD Projekt Fall 2011 Conference we've shared some numbers that show how successful this year was for GOG.com, all that was possible thanks to you - our great community. One of the big milestones we'd like to celebrate with you is the 6 million unique downloaded games! Help us achieve this number and we'll launch a time-limited special offer for all GOG.com users!

Note that when we say "unique games downloaded," that means redownloading games that you have already downloaded before won't increment the counter.

When the counter on the main page of the website hits 6 million, two exciting things will happen. First off, the lucky user who downloaded our 6 millionth unique game will receive everything that's currently in the catalog, absolutely free! Secondly, everyone who has an account on GOG.com will be able to download Broken Sword: Shadow of The Templars Director’s Cut for free, thanks to Sir Charles Cecil and Revolution Software. The offer will be valid only for 48 hours starting from hitting the milestone, so be sure to check GOG regularly or follow us on and [url=https://www.facebook.com/gogcom]Facebook. Let's get cracking to unlock this achievement as soon as possible - it's all in your hands now!
Awesome! Congratulations to GOG.com for this milestone, and to whoever won the BIG price! :-)

DubConqueror: I feel cheated on a magnyfing moment in GOG-histrory. Looking at 5.999.500, people telling there's a winner, I click refresh: I missed the moment of seeing all those 9-s go 0!
Your not the only one, I knew the counter wasn't completely accurate but I was sure it wouldn't be 500 difference when I refreshed.
I wonder how many people will be unable to download Broken Sword now that everyone's spamming it.
Congratz to the winner and, most importantly, to GOG for a helluva milestone achieved!!!

I did a refresh to see it at about 50 left those 50 went in less than 5 seconds
Gah, I wish I knew that the counter wasn't live earlier, I wonder why it suddenly jumped from 500 to go to 6000000 when I refreshed, waiting for the best moment to download :(

Oh well, congratulations to whoever won
Congrats GOG!! I hope to see an email stating I initiated the 6 millionth download! but if not, I have the free game en-queued in the download manager!

DubConqueror: You live in a parallel universe where time goes quicker? Just under 500 to go in my world, at least in my Firefox.

AdmiralMemo: If you didn't realize, the counter's not 100% live. It pulls the number and estimated rate when you load the page. You need to refresh for an actual live count.
A refresh doesn't give you a live count either, they revealed that it would be too demanding on the servers when the event started.
Just wondering: what IF a FEW people initiated download just at the SAME, 6M time? It is possible if so many people participated.

they're going by the DB entry so it's whoevers got entered as entry 6m

It's probable, but improbably, depending on how accurate their clock is.

The system would still process is one person at a time I assume. The way this could have happened is if there was some kind of system where multiple processes were touching the same database simultaneously, but this would be a dangerous design.

I don't think it's possible that they initiated the download at the same millisecond ;)

They would get a generic queue value I guess. E.g. 6,000,000_#00001

Or perhaps the dev team will just mix 'em up and pull a winner from the pile.

You could be surprised - the more the entries the higher probability.
