orcishgamer: They had different pre-order bonuses everywhere. The initial batch of games went out with the bonuses in the box, which is why even stock ones often have the bonuses.
At Gamestop you got Mayan Ruins mission and a Sawtooth Sword. I've no idea if either are that good, the game in general is fun, though:)
NameGoo: I'm starting to wonder if it's even worth pre-ordering anything anymore.
No idea if the DLCs I got are good yet either, and yes, the game is fun...even though I hate the pompous ass I'm playing as right now.
I love that pompous ass, he's so stereotyped he's fucking hilarious!
"Do you think I'm scared of you?!"
"No, but you should be."
EC-: Do you guys think it will have been necessary to play previous games in order to understand the story? Or do you think this game's story will be structured in such a way so it may stand on its own? I am really interested in AC3 due to the change in setting, but the last AC I played was the first one, so I am probably completely out of the loop as far as Desmond is concerned. I would love to play the other 3 games sometime, but they are gigantic and I really wouldn't have the time to completely dive into them all (I almost always want to 100% these sandbox titles), so I would rather just completely dive into this one.
No, you can just play this one, some of the shit won't make sense but the hardest part is that they go rather light on the tutorial stuff (like the varied ways you can escape when spotted). They still cover movement, and free roaming Boston should cover a bunch more stuff that the tutorial doesn't. FWIW, they hide the game's tutorial behind the conceit of the animus and getting your ass to the new world (which sounds like you need a lot of backstory but you don't, basically, ancestral memories are encoded into your DNA, the animus recreates these in simulation, there, that's the entire fucking required reading of the backstory right there).
Really, it's well done and even if you've never played the others there's no reason to skip this one, or play them through in order. You can jump right in.
