And I mean Crime City, not Cities.

It's an adventure game published in 1992. Never been popular. In fact I've never met a person who remembers it. There's only a few words about Crime City in Google and there's one review with the score of 11/100...

However, it was a very enjoyable adventure game, maybe a little difficult, but full of innovations so rare in that genre. There was a story of main characters father who was accused of murder of his best friend. We had about 2 months to exonerate, and that's when the fun starts.

In all the game progress we were limited by time. It wasn't stressful, sometimes we just had to wait to get a new mail or interesting press publication. We had some elements of classic point&click game, but most of the game focused on talks and using gained knowledge properly. It was very important. For example we could use someone's birth date as a safe code or there was seemingly irrelevant phone number found somewhere randomly. It was one of that games you have to note some info using your pen in the classic notebook. I loved it.

Nice plot, great intrigue and that fresh view of classic adventure game made it one of my favourite games when I was a kid. And just kid, because Crime City is rather a mature product.

Here's a place, you could request Crime City in the GOG.com database. However, I don't think chances are big.

Are there any guys who played Crime City? How do you remember that game? Have you ever solved the case?

no one :(?
Sorry, but you must understand that for me the game was a no no back than.
I checked it again. It got some amazing reviews....i mean the major magazine gave him 2/12 (Amiga) and set it on
top of the 5 flop games. The other reviews with 11% (Amiga) and 12% (PC) were not better.
The German translation was terrible no horrible.
Without internet (1992) you could only trust them or risk 75 (Amiga) or 100 (PC) bucks....or use an illegal copy.
Yeah, mine was illegal. One of many. Don't blame me, it was before new copyright law from 1994. Illegal games were being sold like original one, in fact it was the only way to get them those days. In 1992 I was only 4 yo, but I'm pretty sure no one even knew there was anything wrong with getting games that way. Funny story, some nerds who used to sell illegal (well, it was legal then) games in early 90's now are running big companies in informatics, marketing, etc.. You don't have to look far - guys who created GOG.com are one of them.

It's a long story. I'm not sure if this is a proper topic to talk about it. However, someone could write a book, or maybe even two, about those days and famous market at Grzybowska street. Might be one of the biggest electronic markets in Europe in early 90's.

I don't get why reviews of Crime City was so harsh. I want to believe it might be too difficult for critics and it was just a consequence of impatience. If there would be a GOG version or you would have another one, you may give that game another chance. Like many of adventure games it doesn't suffer because of it's age - still playable. For me it was about 8/10 because of its ingenuity and gloomy atmosphere. Just remember - it's rather a small game, not some kind of archaic AAA.

I'm still waiting for people who might remember Crime City. Maybe even there is more fans like me ;)
At that time yours truly was knee deep into the the cracking scene (good that can't get me into trouble anymore).
Than i realized that it was no fun having hundreds of games but no time to play them because i was the one in
our group getting the raw material as fast as possible.

Back to the game itself.
Impressions was far away from publishing any good game....some may remember Rorke's Drift or Cohort.
Nearly every game from them was a *Gurke*.
Some quotes for Crime City: The graphics are dull (even for 1992). The options are no existent. You go from place to
place talk with some people (just use every dialog) get a hint and repeat it at the next location. The management is from outer space. Impressions has spared no effort for publishing the flop of the month. They mixed an imbecilic story without diversification with an graphic from mental waste.
You may know that the German language use *Umlaute* ä/ö/ü well they are missing in the translation....making it a little
more difficult to understand it.
Yeah, well. L.A. Noire looked exactly the same way and it wasn't called dull or grumpy.
It's also a little bit unfair to criticize game because of its translation. Criticize the translators and play english one ;)

Oh my friend! I'm so glad to hear about it, that means there is at least two of us all over the world. ;)

Have you ever solved the case? I finally did, but it was when I was a little bit older, about 2002. I remember that game had a full pack of satisfying breakthroughs like finding Pauls Wilkinson notebook. And there was one important thing you wrote about in your topic - role playing system of main characters self-improvment. However, I wasn't biggest fan of Jeff's services because of many thugs in that area ;)

i played it only back when i was a kid , it was certainly way harder compared to monkey island and indiana jones i had finished , so no did not complete the game , most of the times i would just mess around in the game , but twice i almost cracked it , both times i ran out of time although i had nailed down who it was :\ just could not find all evidence.

I used the that area where you mentioned "infested with thugs" as a money making scheme it was super fun lmao
->travel to the spot by walking , spend all cash on improving skills
->when you try to go back you get mugged
->instead of fighting , beg 90% of the time they will give you 120$ haha repeat process till the stats are maxed out
(sometimes you get trashed to pieces but lose nothing since you spent all the money already)
A good guy on the forum linked me the way to get the game , will play it sometime later

I really wish this game was on gog , people would love playing it for sure

Yeah, you can find it across the Internet, but I'm looking forward for a legal way to get it dosboxed by GOG team
yeah i've heard about crime city, it was called Detroit.
Heard it, played it, didn't like it. It's sorta ok, but a bit underwhelming in general.
i liked playing the breakout minigame on the computer but i was too young to figure out the main game really
learned the word 'pub' from the game
the morgue creeped me out, or was that the morgue in Life & Death (DOS) ? one of them had a light switch that you could click and try to turn off and it would say "I don't think you want to do that"

Hahaha, yeah, it was Crime City :)
Sounds interesting to me to I voted. Maybe there is a way to contact the devs and tell them about gog? :p
