bambam9005: Try the GOG downloader. It can resume downloads and you can limit its bandwidth usage between specified times. Getting the game in a day is better than waiting for the mail or not getting it.
Remote locations usually have a bandwidth limit and an extra fee for going over a certain download limit. To avoid such fees, you could technically have to wait a month or more to download the game in full. But obviously, this is only an assumption, as the OP hadn't specified exactly why he wants to avoid downloading it.
Other than than, your option is really the best one to take.

mharris: If you manage to get access to somewhere with better broadband speed and want to download anything onto a USB stick for example, keep in mind that the largest file size you can put on an FAT32 filesystem is 2GB. For any games larger than that you would need to format the USB stick as either EXFAT (requires an opt-in update from Microsoft for Windows XP, but I think is built into Vista+7 ready to go), or NTFS. Just a tip to save possible frustration should you go down this avenue. :)
This is a non-issue when it comes to GOG. It is precisely for this reason that all GOG games larger than 2GB are broken down into <2GB .bin files.

This is why there are more disc releases in the UK than the US. Use them?

How about this for a thread mashup: You can have someone download 99% of the game with the downloader, and burn it to disc or USB. Then you can complete it from your own account's login! Does that work?

That is a very interesting idea! Even fully downloading it and then deliberately corrupting a bit should work, the downloader verifies and repairs AFAIK.

wait what?? We have the same number of releases digital and hard on average though we're usually 2-3 days behind the US (see the no more (digital) oceans campaign). Just because US stores don't stock the hardcopies doesn't mean they don't exist

The UK gets a ton of disc releases we don't get. I know because I used to collect boxes and had to import a ton. It's very common.

we get different SE's and stuff but basic editions we tend to get the same (way back when we had a crap load of devs that didn't sell in the US sure we got more hard copies but most of our studios are gone)

Well I know what I'm talking about and have zero interest in trying to convince you.

So do I and your talking a load of crap. We've had less and less hard copy editions released over the last 10 years. We DO get more SE's than the US though which makes it look like we get more physical games but on PC we get about the same as the US overall. Most games are now released purely on digital platforms or in a box with no discs and a steam code.

Dude, can you even fathom that as someone buying boxed copies in the US I might know more than you do? Can you even consider that some of those boxed copies you see actually don't come out here, even though you think they do? Can you imagine a world where I give enough of a shit to list the games I had to import?

Stop being stubborn over stupid shit.

P1na: I tend to travel a lot and I'm always looking for excuses to travel more. Let me know where you are, and maybe I can pass by and pass you an installer. Can't promise exactly when that would be, though.

Titanium: OK, that's thinking reeeealy outside the box.

Now I'm picturing some remote location with deadly creatures roaming the countryside and the mailman comes around once in a blood moon when the tides are the least deadly.
Its called Norfolk

I think the FAT32 filesize limit is around 4GB, but otherwise yep. I keep all my USB memory sticks NTFS formatted, especially those bigger than 4GB.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Allocation_Table#FAT32

The maximum possible size for a file on an FAT32 volume is 4 GB minus 1 byte or 4,294,967,295 (232−1) bytes.

Actually it works up to 32GB - thats why my friend had problems with his 64gb sticks.
I can confirm this as I have a 16gb usb in FAT32 without issues
