Since when has that ever mattered? Everyone celebrated the turn of the millennium on New Year's Eve 1999, even though it was technically a year too soon. What matters to most people is when the most significant digit changes.
Apart from that, Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you get something nice.

I dislike one thing about the holiday season: 1 January always seems so terribly depressing in comparison, with only bleak and boring January and February to 'look forward to'. Couldn't we have spaced the holidays a bit more evenly across the winter season? (speaking NH-centric here, I know).

Hehe, I don't actually disagree with you, I'm just saying that in this particular case it's hopeless trying to educate people, and also, in the grand scheme of things, pointless. There was a small group of people complaining loudly at the end of 1999, that people shouldn't celebrate the new millenium until the year after. They made absolutely no difference, and did it really matter? As long as people know what is right, let them celebrate when they want ;-)
