I read yesterday that GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas on Steam do not contain third party DRM, so no evil SecuROM like they had on retail disc. Anyone able to confirm this?

Also, anyone know if they run okay on Vista and Win7 x64?

Yes, I can confirm this: no Securom and they runs fine on Win 7, I've installed San Andreas on my PC.

I have them on PS2 so I recommend this:

San Andreas = YES!!

Vice City = If you like the 80s setting, music, and other stuff I say go ahead but good luck with the sheer difficulty especially the Water Boat missions which is even more risky since you drown and die in deep water.

3: Play at your own risk, this game has not aged well at all the controls (and Vice City aswell) on the PC are better but that won't help it from its bland setting, bland soundtrack, bland characters.
San Andreas's Steam page says it installs SecuROM.

"Other Requirements: Software installations required including DirectX and Sony DADC SecuROM"
I had a problem running San Andreas fullscreen with Windows 7. I mean: it's fullscreen but 4/3 with black bars on the side. Some people managed to make it work but not me. The game is still enjoyable though.
've already got them but this thread has me thinking of making a trip down memory lane.
This may not be related to the GTA series but I was surprised that even SPORE on steam did not have that horrid DRM where you can only install it a few times and that's it you can even play it in offline mode which I find amazing for an EA game

Yes, this is why I'm looking for confirmation. Steam has a history of inaccurate third party DRM notifications (some titles don't list any, but do have some).

In the case of San Andreas, I'm wondering if it was removed at some point. The PC Gaming Wiki states that the Steam version has no third-party DRM and supports both Windows and Mac OS X. Also, the Big List of Steam DRM doesn't mention any of the GTA games except for GTA IV, again pointing to no third party DRM on the earlier titles.

Yeah, this is where I am too. :)

I played GTA3 and Vice City through to completion many years ago (I have retail discs somewhere, but they have the evil SecuROM, from the days before I learned about DRM schemes).

As for San Andreas, I played most of it on the original Xbox, but that console died just before I got to the last mission, so I never completed it. Never played it on PC though.

Yes, I can confirm this. I have those three games on Steam exactly because that is the only place you can find them without SecuROM. Any other place or media has them with it.

Also yes for Windows 7 64-bit, the games run fine (I use that operating system -Home Premium-).

As a bonus, you also receive the MAC versions of those three games.

These links can give you more info about DRM for any game on Steam or elsewhere:

A little off topic, but I was gifted all three 3D GTA's on GamersGate last year and they all had SecurRom activations on those. I must say I was not impressed, but a gift is a gift.

San Andreas is so over rated, it's god awful controls and dialogue is enough reason not to play it.

Play GTA 3 on the PS2 and you will take back everything you said about San Andreas.
They work great. Make sure you DON'T use widescreen setting, because what that actually means is a widescreen picture inside a 4:3 image. Or something. It doesn't look right anyway.

Also Gamersgate has these with only a SecuROM activation after the install, which means a cracked exe makes them DRM free. Let your conscience be your guide there I guess.
