Some day I was read about Grim Fandango for future launching in GOG.com.
1st: Is it true? =)
2nd: Will it be launched in many languages or only in english?
3rd: If it will be lauched only in English, and some day, for a miracle, haves more languages avaliable to download, they will be released for free (for who paid for the game)?
* Is very important to release an adventure game like GF in many languages as possible, an hilarious game provides a better experience running in player's native language
Ty!
are you sure you might not have read it from a freind or something? cause i have followed every article about gog since i heard about them, and i have read none of that.
but i will try with my best knowlegde and answer you these questions
1) as stated above. i have abselutly no idea
2) so far, all games added to GOG are only in english. i know that some of the games were translated. but since GOG is trying to reach out to what most people speak in the beginning (english) then the first games will only apear in english
3) It could happen. You are ofcourse right about adventure (and rpg) games with lots of text is easer in english. so it might happen someday.
If the games should be translated then they would have the dig up the translation of the game, and the original creators of the game might not sit around with a french or german version of their old rusty game.
If enough people talk about it, then one day it might happen

GF is undoubtedly one of my top 3 favorites of all time. I haven't read anything... a lot of people listed it in the request thread though.
Still, I loved checking the forums this morning and seeing a post about Grim Fandango... the game deserves its own thread. That's just how amazing it is. If it wasn't for the sub-par controls, the game would be flawless. Tim Schafer is a legend.
It's interesting what you mentioned about native languages... I can imagine that if a game isn't translated well, the jokes are lost. I've had that happen with some Japanese RPGs... where the story line isn't as compelling or the characters aren't as believable because of bad translation, but I can only assume that it's 10x worse for comedy.

Short answers:
1. Not really :-( We'd love to get GF (same as you do:) but talks with Lucasarts
are unfortunately pretty far from happy end.
2. If some day will be. Most probably only in English. Local languages versions
are not in near plans.
Sorry for briging not so good news :-

Thanks, Mikee - it's nice to hear the status regardless. Maybe as the site expands, LucasArts will be easier to deal with. They're not the company they used to be.
That being said, if there's ANYTHING we as a community can do, please let us know.
Umh....
Feel smell of petition....

Hey... it worked for Sam and Max! I think. Even though they cancelled it later...
Also kind of worked for Family Guy, although I don't find that show as good as it once was. Could say the same for Sam and Max, but I absolutely love Telltale Games and the new stuff isn't half bad.

Wow, a real shame about Lucasarts.
It boggles my mind how a publisher wouldn't want to what amounts to free money by letting gog sell their game. Gog fixes Grim Fandango to run in XP / Vista, all Lucasarts has to do is sit back and collect the check.
Makes me pretty upset, as of right now, their greatest games are getting lost in time, while they are pushing mediocre crap like Force Unleashed.

it really just doesn't make sense does it? I mean.. it's not like they'll create another non-Star Wars title.. *snort*
Another thing that bites about Lucas Arts is that up until about 2 years ago you could purchase the entire back catalog from them for very fair prices. Not any more though. It is as if they want to completly forget about there adventuring heritage.
Beside the sad news for today and tomorrow. In general, I think, that is a matter of time for us to get most of the good old games. So basically we need to improve and expand the site, grow the sales and everything will come with a time:-) I strongly believe in that:-)
Of course there are special cases like sport/racing games which based on yearly licenses and when they expire products need to disappear from the market. Or situation where there is more than one IP owner (for example, one company own the world, other the game itself).
Unfortunatelly Planescape: Torment is one of this special cases. Its whole fantasy world was closed by Wizzards, therefore sale of all products from this world should be discontinued. But there is always a hope :-) ..We are not known more widely worldwide, but we're in the games business for, woohooo, 14 years (time passing fast:-) ), and we licensed (for Eastern Europe) I think around 1.000 games so far. And we made many unusual and difficult deals and we know that the most important is keep on trying. What is what we're doing right now to get more content for GOG :-)
So stayed tune, we'll do our best not to disappoint :-)
In fact, that's our be or not to be ;-)

Mikee: Beside the sad news for today and tomorrow.

I really was not aware of your history.. I think it's fantastic that we get to 'interface' one on one with devs. This is so neat.
I've told many of my friends about this site, I don't really know of anyone who's joined up other than myself.
I have no clue why, but my friends are generally reluctant to take my advice, and then when they finally do, they're like 'oh that was really easy and turned out awesome!'
I don't know why they don't listen to me more...
I quite clearly know my stuff...
