Darkcloud: Well Media Markt and Saturn are pretty much the same but they have more special offers that aren't huge rip offs. Gamestop is good for some stuff like used last gen games that they want to get rid of. I also got a used wired 360 controller there for a decent price.
The only retail store that has constant good prices comparable to online prices and sometimes even better is Müller.
Media Markt and Saturn are nowhere near as bad - as you say, at least they have decent offers, and even their standard prices are far superior to GameStop's. The only time I go into GameStop is when I happen to be passing by and check out their (massively overpriced) used PS2 and PSP sections.
I used to go into Müller when I lived in NRW and made regular trips to Hamelin. Don't think we have one around where we are now - the nearest Müller from here is around 50km away. A shame really, because they were really good, especially for blacklisted titles.
Nothing beats Amazon.de for games though. Unless, of course, you happen to be ordering USK 18 games, then it becomes a hassle and you'd be better served just picking it up yourself.
We have Saturn, Media Markt, Karstadt, Real and Famila nearby all offering better prices on PC games, and three independent gaming stores here offering comparable prices and better service.
GameStop's rip-off prices combined with their morally abhorrent trade-in policies mean the day GameSpott dies a horrible death cannot come soon enough.
langurmonkey: When I was living in Germany, I saw that a lot good deals for PC games at Media Markt and Saturn. For example, not so old good games for 10 euro each.
You'd be talking about the Software Pyramide. One of the finest things in retail PC gaming ever, to be sure.
