People who make (and love to play!) games can be so very awesome. I was startled to see the attached when I opened up Ethan: Meteor Hunter today. I love it!

What have you seen in games that just brought a huge smile to your face?
Attachments:
The whole of Guacamelee!, with it's in-your-face memes and video game references. I understand a lot of people think it's too much, but I had a good time laughing at them and trying to figure out a few that weren't quite obvious to me. Those lucha libre Mario & Luigi "Los Super Hermanos" posters really brought a huge smile to my face. And the whole fight against a multi-colored chameleon-dragon-thing straight out of Super Mario Bros., with you picking up an axe to make a bridge collapse, and then moving into the next room right into a "the Princess is in another castle" reference joke...

That game is seriously awesome and any metroidvania/platformer/brawler/puzzle fan shouldn't miss it.

Unfortunately, Ethan: Meteor Hunter strikes me as yet another one of those bland "indie-physics-puzzle-platformers" the market is saturated with. It has way too much stuff in it I dislike, starting with the awful, lazy design and animations of Ethan himself. , on the other hand, may feel like that to a lot of people, but, personally, it strikes me as an indie game with loads of personality and genuine charm. Maybe it's just points of view, but the Ethan devs themselves recognized their game lacked soul, here on GOG forums, on an [url=http://www.gog.com/forum/general/another_indie_postmortem_ethan_meteor_hunter]Ethan post-mortem thread. Still, I enjoyed that old coin-op joke a lot, I'll give them that. :P

[EDIT] I even found a secret room in Guacamelee! with just a giant QR code but, alas!, I have no QR code reader.

Nice! I have Guacamelee, so I'll look forward to the humor of it!

I hope to enjoy Ethan, but at this point, I'll have to see if my controller will work with my computer. One of the keys isn't working properly >_< Ah well.

If anyone here is into casual adventures, I can't recommend Nightmare Adventures: The Witch's Prison enough. It's dark and eerie, great gameplay, and humor? Oh yeah! The devs, GhostShip, put in a lot of pop culture reference to enjoy if you took the time to click on items multiple times. The put in a single hidden object scene to poke fun at the genre, a reference to Big Fish ( "Hey! It's a Big Fish!" Click on it again and, "No, seriously. It is a Big Fish.") and Monty Python shrubbery! Mahaha! Awesome! XD

There are QR readers available online -screenshot it and upload it to one of the free online QR readers such as this one ;-)

Oh and if you love a reference or two plus some just sheer wackiness, The Real Texas is pretty hysterical ;-) ~It's here on GOG but if you need a sale and can't wait until GOG offer ones then Humble has it currently as a drm-free dl.

I think that was really there to kind of poke fun at smartphone owners. I still don't get the point of all the QR code BS all over things these days - hell, I don't even own a smartphone because I don't need one (like 99% of everyone else). Anyway, I googled it and all it says is "Congratulations, you found a QR code". Cheeky buggers.

Be careful SPOILER

The most recently that I've seen (last week) was on Evoland. Try Evoland! is very funny tribute to other games, movies and ... well I don't like spoil... is a short game! If u have the chance to play it, do it and beat it. Has very funny quotes and comments every time. Hmm just a bit spoil [SPOILER ALERT]: in a dungeon u win a bracer or pendant (can't remember) that h elps u to avoid or scare creepers (minecraft) of you ! ^_^ many old school tributes and when u see a creeper lol... and well.. better don't spoil the end... near the end and the end is the best I think.

As they say: A Tribute to Zelda, Final Fantasy, Diablo, Dragon Quest and many others!

sorry for my bad english
