Forgive me if this was already posted, but I thought it was a good interview and was glad to see it mentioned on Twitter.
One thing caught my eye though:
Eurogamer: So basically you're directly competing with EG Retro. Duly noted. Your big news this week is that Ubisoft games are coming to GOG.com. Is this a one-off deal for a few games, or a longer-term thing, and can you tell us which games will be appearing and when?
Tom Ohle: At least for now it's a one-off deal, but it'll bring a lot of great games to GOG.com. As of this week we already have some games I'd call "mega uber awesome" like Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, IL-2 Sturmovik and one of my personal favourites, Beyond Good & Evil. There are even more games coming in the next few weeks, though, including Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon and Far Cry.

Here's hoping it's not a one-off, as I'm looking forward to the rest of The Sands of Time trilogy. That and there are a whole lot of other games worth getting too!
I'm looking to get most of the Splinter Cell action going on the Ubisoft front. GOG, please get all the Splinter Cell titles that qualify as GOGs.
Splinter Cell... I kind of missed those the first time around, might have to give them a shot now.
I actually missed R6 the first time around. I did play a demo, but that really doesn't count.

Kewl. Will try out R6 to see how much better it is compared to today's craplets.

Hmmm glad to see that the topic on boxes and stuff is mentioned.
Eurogamer: It's interesting that you mention the boxed side of things. Talking to a friend about GOG.com recently, he pointed out that while he likes the idea of having all these games, the nostalgia factor compels him to look at games on eBay instead, because you get the box, the manual, and all the rest. It reminds me of when GT Interactive re-released a lot of the old id games in proper boxes - Ultimate Doom, Doom II, etc. - with branded sleeves around original reprints. Would you consider expanding in that direction if GOG.com does really well?
Tom Ohle: I don't think we'd totally rule it out, but it would be a really complex venture. There would be totally new contracts, we'd have to go back to the DRM-free debate, we'd need to establish a retail distribution channel, etc. For now we're doing what we can to make these digital downloads as close as we can to the real thing - we have PDF manuals, the virtual game shelf to store your collection, strategy guides for some titles... It's obviously not the same as owning the package, but we're not preventing people from burning the game to a disc anyway. You could feasibly recreate your own little retro game collection. For now we're focused on the digital realm, though.

If I have a suggestion to make on this topic, it would be one that I've already made before: why not try to source out for third party companies that offer printing and scribing services? You know, the same way mods for games get sourced out in the respective games' forums. GOG doesn't need to pay for royalty or any other misc cost, but the consumers would appreciate it if we could know where to get these
Even before posting this, weeks ago I've been trying to source for such services but to no avail. Then again, Singapore's a small place, and Google doesn't always work. Maybe someone here will know of a small shop that actually does something like this?

I think you can get it at a greater value outside though, as a bundle with Rogue Spear and possibly Raven Shield. I'm not trying to short out on GOG.com, because that's what Ubisoft seems to be doing instead. USD9.90 is a bit steep for R6 when I can get it at SGD9.90 (exchange rate is USD1.00 : SGD 1.51)
Nevertheless if you can't get it anywhere else, go for it. Rainbow Six was, and still is the best tactical FPS. I've never played SWAT 4, so I'll compare that another time, but imo nothing comes close to R6's intensity. Well, maybe Rogue Spear. Raven Shield wasn't shabby, but some of the designs, like the heartbeat detector, make the game somewhat easy to play, and the level designs were very much smaller

The problem of the licensing of the artwork and such related to the boxes would still exist. You can't legally print the packaging on your own when someone else holds the copyrights for everything that is on that box and no reputable print shop would actually do that for you because of that.
I've never played a Splnter Cell game so I will definitely buy the first one (at least) if they show up on GOG.

If you want to get a Splinter Cell games, do not get Double Agent. It's crap.

It wasn't THAT bad. The 360/PC versions weren't especially good, the original xbox one was better I thought

Great. Yesterday I bought a Ubisoft pack (on a local store) which included Rainbow Six Vegas, Ghost Recon AW and Splinter Cell Double Agent.... Well, at least it was 10€
PS: Of course I'm still not playing it till I've played the previous ones anyway

Legal or not, I don't see the problem in printing it for my own uses. I'm not distributing it anywhere, all I'm doing is getting an image printed on to cardboard, which will then get crafted into a nice box for me to store my discs and manuals. It's all for personal use (and for display purposes in my shelf), so I don't see what's wrong

Same goes for downloading movies?

The thing that's wrong is that sure, you think you're practising fair use, but the stupid artists don't know that. How annoying is that? And a reason publishers like digital distribution is that there's no packaging, no rights to clear for the artwork/covers etc.
On another note, I'm in the all-time rep list... whoa.
