wpegg: I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Sacrifice. I know it's an RTS / RPG and primarily about gameplay, but I always liked the story. I love the final line from Eldred to Marduk.
I second this; although the story is highly changeable depending on who you serve in any given mission, it is very memorable overall, with a good helping of Shiny-quality humor.
The Heroes of Might and Magic games haven't been mentioned yet, but they also are good candidates. Story-wise, I think the fourth instalment is the best (not that I say that HoMM 1-3 have bad stories, but the stories of the various protagonists in HoMM4 are simply amazingly detailed).
I almost forget: Second Sight is also nice.
how about zork anthology?
Well you already have Torment on your list so I feel you've played the best of the best storywise for CRPGs. <3

-As others have said, the Gabriel Knight games definitely rate up there for amazing stories, my personal favorite being GK1 but 2 is also really wonderful.

-Legacy of Kain also. I have an awful lot of fondness for Blood Omen 1, but even the Soul Reaver games have wonderful stories.

-It doesn't quite count as "old" but I personally very much love Culpa Innata and it's fantastic conspiracy based storyline (still really holding out for the sequel to come out :( ).

-What I've played of Zork Nemesis is very wonderful if gothic horror is your kind of thing for an adventure game (still need to get back to that...)

There are probably a ton more games that I love the stories to and just can't think of right now. :P
