It’s a holiday tradition! We’ve decorated a Christmas Tree in the GOG.com office. Random people are running around in holiday hats and singing along the winners of the Holiday Songs Contest.

We think that our website deserves some holiday touch of its own and we will deliver that! During our 50% off Xmas Sale we already had four big publishers join forces with us. EA helped us with the the EA Crossword Puzzle, Interplay in the Interplay Caption Contest, thanks to Activision for the Activision Holiday Song Contest and last but not least Ubisoft motivated you guys to write some Ubisoft themed New Year’s Eve Resolutions.

So it’s finally time for the Third Annual GOG.com Screenshot Scavenger Hunt to start! Here are the rules: From now until Friday the 30th of December 2011 we’re going to have some Holiday themed screenshots up on our website for you to find. ;) They will be hidden in our game cards, surrounded by all of the regular screenshots. The trick is (as you can see below) that some of them will be “spiced up” with some holiday themed devices:

When you find a holiday themed screenshot (there are 20 of them in total), be sure to write down the name of the game. When you’ve got them all, list them all in an email to "contest@gog.com" with the subject line being "GOG.com 2011 Scavenger Screenshot Hunt". From every valid application we will pick 10 winners who got all the games right and gift them two games from the entire catalogue (excluding The Witcher 2). The contest ends on Friday December 30th 2011 11:59 GMT

silv4h: May I ask why that one modified screenshot is so hard to spot? Is the "target" so small? Or does it just blend in very well?

I'm currently at 8 discovered screenshots and I fear I will overlook something.
It's just different from the rest, shown from an unconventional perspective and not that well drawn, so it took me a while to understand what it was. It's not small at all, probably one the bigger ones.

P.S. and by the way, it just so happens that it's the very game I'm playing right now (not that that's any help)

I found all of them :D Woohoo!
19 games here, but i already scanned through the entire catalog and i really don't want to do it again...
Ha, I found them all!

GOG, you have a similarity in the HTML for all the contest pictures ;) I searched the HTML rather than looking at the pictures...easier and more precize.

I too have 19, with one or two I deem questionable as to whether they're just wintery or Holiday-y.
My god!
Found the last one.
won't go into detail, but I was missing one of the OBVIOUS ones.

I mean, one of those that are right there, clear and visible and shouting "I'M HERE!"

And somehow, when I went trought those screenshots the first time, I didn't realize it was there...
Got it finally. Now to verify and send.
Damn... on the first run I found 14, then on the second one where I clicked all screenshots I have found 5 more... still missing one and don't want to start over :(

Maybe someone can point me in the direction in a pm where I have to look for the last one.
e.g. there are 6 games with the starting letter abcdef, 4 with ghijkl, and so on (just an example, these are not the real numbers of the games I found) that would help me a lot I think.
This year's holiday shots are MUCH easier to find.
I had trouble with finding 2 of the screenshots, the other ones were fairly obvious. :)

Thank you for the contest, an email is on the way to you!
First run through the list found 18 with a possible 3
Overall, I guess there were only two screenshots that were hard to notice.

I would have gotten all in the first go if I didn't fail to notice one of the most obvious.
Dang it. It involved a hat on the head of the only character on-screen, AND I MISSED IT.

I will feel dumb for days now...
Nuts, only got 19. Plus 5 slightly Holiday-ish ones that probably weren't modified at all. Definitely not going to look through the catalogue again, though. Probably just make a guess from among those 5 questionables. If there was justice in the world, everyone who actually took the time to do this one would get some sort of minor prize, lol.

I almost missed that one too! I think one's brain goes to jelly after looking through so many screenshots.

mrkgnao: Since I used the "vulnerability" (lazy programmer that I am...), I'll prepare a detailed how-to and post it here after the deadline expires. I assume GOG will plug the "security hole" by next year's contest.

Perhaps. Perhaps not.

Profanity: We all know that it has something to do with the date the image was posted, it wasn't festive all year. Actually checking the date of images on every game takes longer than just rolling trough them.

No, you must be using something more sinister. Something more programmy.
I doubt they will. The whole purpose of this contest is to get people exploring the website in order to hopefully make a few sales while being fun for the community, and if more people enter, then it just means there is a larger pool of names to draw from when it comes to awarding prizes.

If they were giving a free game to everyone who entered, they might be more inclined to fix any exploitation, but right now the only person affected by any such "exploits" is yourself - it doesn't really matter if you use computer expertise or hunt the pictures by hand, as long as you have fun during the contest.

It's a good point. I did enjoy myself using the tools of my trade to find the game, probably more than I would have going through the thousands of screenshots.

Well the "vulnerability" and "exploit" detailed by some users here isn't a vulnerability or exploit of the GOG.com website per se. We think that way of obtaining the list of the festive screenshots is just cheating. The whole point of this contest was to supply our community with a fun thing to do in the holiday season.

We assure you that GOG.com website is secure and the detailed issue here isn't a vulnerability or exploit by all means.
