Hello everyone! I'm having an issue during installation of GOG games...

I already have DOSBox v0.7.4 (latest version) installed, but when I try to install a GOG game, I deselect the DOSBox option so I can point to my previously installed DOSBox directory, but the GOG installer returns the following message: "DOSBox not found or too old".

So with every GOG game I install, I have to also install DOSBox, instead of using my pre-installed version.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, with all the latest updates and drivers. I also have UAC turned off, but even though it is off, I tried installing both DOSBOX and my GOG games using the "Run as Administrator" option, and it still didn't make any difference.

My machine specs:
Core i5-750
6GB RAM
Radeon HD 5850
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
All the latest drivers (except for the latest Catalyst, because it is buggy) and Windows updates.

Thanks for your attention, regards,

Brotoles

Is it installed in program files? It might be running into the security that vista/7 have there, might be worth trying to install it elsehwere just as a test
GOG installers check for the exact version of DOSBox they ship with and don't support possible future versions. This is a specific limitation of GOG's version check implementation and isn't caused by UAC or Program Files or whatever.

Replacing your own DOSBox installation with 0.72 (or 0.73, depending on the game--refer to this page) and then updating again after installing the games is the only way around this other than leaving each game with its own copy of DOSBox.

Which game is it? It might be that the game comes with an earlier version of DOSBox, the installer apparently doesn't recognise any other version of DOSBox than what it comes with.

I guess I'll just install the games with the bundled DOSBox version then, saves a lot of trouble. But at least is good to know that I wasn't doing anything wrong :-)

Thanks a lot for all replies, specially yours, which was really thorough and left me with no doubts.
Another workaround would be to;

1. Download and install v7.2 into a different folder
2. Rename (or move) the DOSBox.exe in the 7.4 folder
3. Copy DOSBox.exe from the 7.2 folder into the 7.4 folder
4. Install the GOG game, pointing to your 7.4 folder
5. When the game has installed, rename (or move) the 7.2 version DOSBox.exe and restore the 7.4 version DOSBox.exe
