As our catalog gets bigger and better every week, it’s easy to lose track of some of the awesome games that we have to offer. Of course Fallout, Baldur’s Gate, and some other of our most popular titles will always get a lot of attention, but GOG has many more classics to bring you. To help encourage you to explore the dustier reaches of GOG’s catalog, we’re going to be offering a promo on the first and third Wednesday of every month. Think of it as a curated promo on some of GOG’s favorite titles that you may not have played. Whether we’re encouraging you to explore incredible new worlds or inviting you to see how a titanic series got its start, we think every game we’re going to be offering on our GOG Gem Promos will be an excellent title, and we hope you give them all a try.

In today's promo we're presenting you one of the most fun and action packed shooter - Painkiller: Black Edition. Made by the Polish development studio People Can Fly, who recently released Bulletstorm, the game focuses on fast-paced action, weapons of mass destruction and hordes of fun to shoot enemies. Although Painkiller was released in 2004, it is a perfect example of the oldschool shooter games formula - run & gun! Let's be honest, it's not about the plot, it's just pure, unadulterated action. And with 60% off today you can't miss the occasion to check it out.

So grab Painkiller: Black Edition today for only $3.99! The promo ends tomorrow, April 7 at 5:59 a.m. EDT (11:59 a.m. GMT).
I'm a little disappointed that i already own it but I'll get over it.

If you are still on the fence, take it from me you will have a blast with this game so I say pick it up.
I've noticed that Sierra and Black Isle Studios/Atari games seem to be mostly excluded from the Weekend and GOG Gem promos (only being slightly on sale during the Christmas sale). I just have to ask: Is this a GOG or publisher decision?

This is definitely worth picking up if you like twitchy, mindless shooters. Loads of fun. =D

GameRager: From a painkiller FAQ I found:

LordKuruku: A little late, but the answer to that is definitely. Here's a screenshot I took to prove just that.
Great! Thanks a lot, GameRager and LordKuruku!

Zchinque: Time to look for change under the couch cushions.
Well, I didn't find anything.
But I won a game from the Charles Cecil Q&A, I'm drinking beer, and Manchester United are up 1-0 at half time, so I guess I'll send some money GOG's way anyway.
Epic. Good things happen to those who wait!

I'd always wanted to get this. Got the demo off Steam a few days ago and while it wasn't as great as everyone's made it out to be, it was, after all, a demo. I also suspect my rusty deathmatch skills need polishing 'cos this game is tough.

GOG is all knowing. GOG is loving. Just what I needed: a Painkiller for the humdrum of boring Call of Duty clones and cover based shooters with chest high walls.

If you don't mind some profanity (it is painkiller afterall), these walk-through videos give you look at Painkiller game play . . . =)
Tried it once, good twitch shooter. Well worth the current price.
I think I've figured out the marketing ploy, gog do a sale on a $10 game which hopefully shoots it to the top of the best sellers. As the original price comes back those new to the site will immediately see the bestseller list and make a purchase, buying products that are probably more profitable to the company. Notice that all bestsellers except for one are $10.

On the other hand it could be a ploy to get around stingy publishers price settings and provide cheap games to the masses.

Navagon: Great game. Especially for people who love old school FPS. I've already bought it here though.

You have not been mislead. Many of the weapons are cool like that.

TomNook: Very well. Bought.
Guess I am buying this game too before Tom Nook raises the price on it. ;)

Paratech2008: I missed 2 sales I wanted, King's Bounty, and another game.

Leroux: I wish I could gift you my copy of King's Bounty, I didn't really like it. :(

Btw, I was serious when I asked if you can turn off the music in Painkiller (while keeping the sounds turned on). Surely someone here would know?
I love the Eastern European heavy metal music in Painkiller (not the techno garbage that was in its expansion, though). No way am I turning off the music when I fire up that game!
It's a really, really nice single player shooter.
I would've loved some co-op in there though.
But if you love some old school Doom and Serious Sam-like shooting, you can't go wrong with this game. As a single player experience it's better than Serious IMO.
I didn't even notice the music and I mean that as a compliment, I don't really like metal but the soundtrack for this game just works and fits like a glove.
Damn, I missed this Promo!!!

It's a lot closer to Serious Sam than to Doom (most of the time you're locked into an area until you kill all monsters, at which points doors open into the next area) but with much more impressive level design.
