A rhapsody in red.

Hotline Miami, a cronenbergian psychedelic action-thriller asking some serious questions via twisted storytelling, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the next 24 hours!

Here's a question: how much violence is too much violence? Here's another: if you act on someone's orders, are you still responsible for your actions? And another: if you have free will, does that mean you can willingly give it up? For a seemingly uncomplicated game, Hotline Miami can really make one ponder upon things that people usually avoid thinking about. Surprisingly, it achieves that without forcing any conclusions down your throat, without lengthy dialogs, without any pretension. It just--well--shows you stuff. Red pixels, mainly. Lots of red pixels.

Find out why Hotline Miami became the indie smash-hit of 2012. Experience the fast-paced frantic combat sequences spliced with stealth elements and careful tactical planning. Take a plunge into the psychedelic and mind-bending narrative that will leave you uneasy, with a head full of questions. Open up to the exceptional soundtrack that makes up for the large portion o this game's hypnotic appeal. Take a trip back to the trippy, pixelated 1980!

Hide your face behind a mask of your choosing and find out how disturbingly easy it is to end a game character's life in Hotline Miami, for only $4.99, until Thursday, January 17, at 10:59AM GMT.
On the Omerta page, Gog says #500 will be released tomorrow, as Omerta is a pre-order, it doesn't count.

Just in case anyone is waiting for the fanfare that surrounds #500 :-)
You kidding me, right?
I read so much good about it here that I actually bought it. But come on... the game is a joke. I don't have anything against violence, etc. But the gameplay is simply primitive. How can anyone call it a "stealth" game? You serious? It's sort of arcade game and it plays horrible. Any money on this would feel like a waste to me and 5$ is waaay too much for 10 minutes of big disappointment.
my prayers have been answered. Thanks gog!
Zero Punctuation reviews this then it's on sale at the same time?

Oh GOG you crafty devils.

ShaolinsKunk: I just tried out the first part and I find it simply wonderful.

One of the things games try and do is make you feel like your punches/shots are powerful and swinging a bat in this game followed by a very satisfying THWACK is something I really can't explain but it fills me with joy.

I also like the fact that you die just as easily as any of the enemies, like someone else said it gives it a Super Meat Boy feel as you try different strategies and get further each time. It's not nearly as hard so far but just as fun.

I'm also disappointed it didn't come with the soundtrack, I'm already in love with it.
It never gets old to:

- Grab shotgun
- Throw shotgun at nearest enemy
- Pick up pipe, whack enemy
- Smash the door in the face of the guy running in
- Pick up shotgun
- Shoot goon as he gets up
- Shoot 3 more goons who heard the noise
- Rinse and repeat

Crazy stuff. Just finished the game. It's a short but exhilarating ride. The most fun part about the game isn't so much the sneaking up on someone and bashing his brains in, though the "feel" of that is satisfying enough, but rather in trying to get as good a grade at the end of the chapter. The tension really kicks in when your plan starts to fall apart, and you're just madly running from corridor to corridor, trying to get the jump on them first.

The story is decent too. To avoid spoilers, let's just keep it at that.

If I must find something to complain about the game, it's that the crosshair is too difficult to spot in the heat of action; AI isn't very consistent too. Other than that, great game. Not the best indie game I've bought from GOG, but IMO it's a very solid title.

Happy birthday btw! :D

lowyhong: *snip*
Thank you! :)

And yeah I try to avoid shooting guns, makes me feel like a badass when not a shot was fired by my enemies nor I.

Leroux: Hm, I was waiting for this deal during the Holiday sales, but now that it's finally here I'm reluctant to bite. Some seem to love it, some seem to think it's lame and pretentious. And I really can't say which faction I'm more likely to join, just by looking at the screenshots and gameplay footage. I've already regretted buying a few indie games last year, that received much praise but turned out to be quite mediocre. A shame there is no demo available.

What are the chances of this game being featured in an indie bundle during the next year or so?

tinyE: Did you like Postal? It's similar only ten times faster and it's more of an aracde setup; run in, complete the level, well die 50 times and then complete the level, and onto the next. In that regard it kind of reminds me of the old Lode Runner once I learned to give myself infinite lives.
Never played Postal, never had any interest in it. I think I'll pass for now and play it safe, see if I can get it in a bundle somewhen in the future. That way if I find out it's not my kind of game at all, I won't be disappointed. Judging by the comments here, it seems to depend a lot on personal taste whether it's considered a really good or a really bad game. :/

Good call. Some games I can recommend regardless of a person's interest, but this ain't one of them! It's entirely possible that you could hate HL Miami just as much as I love it, so I would definitly recommend sitting back on this one for a while.
I was kind of sad when this was not on the Holiday Sale.

Maybe a delayed Holiday.
I too waited all day to play this. So far, it's pretty good. I died a lot, but so did the NPCs. Once the music kicks in and you get into the groove with the beat and the gameplay; it's actually very enjoyable.
Awww man! I boaugh it at Steam for a couple more bucks some weeks ago. Great game though. Worth every dollar. Just skipped my backlog of games to play it. Short but fun. A little frustrating at times, you will die a lot. But very satisfying when you find the most efficient and deadly way to pass a level after a lot tries.
so, last night I've bashed some skulls with a prybar and vomited for the first time...

so far so good :D
