Chess does not need any introduction, but if you need some introduction into a more combative type of chess, you can pick up [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/combat_chess]Combat Chess 60% off for the next 24 hours only, for a total price of $2.39 on GOG.com.

Combat Chess takes one of the oldest board games ever made and updates it for the video game generation with detailed pieces--different for both the white and black sides--and with animated movements and combat. Each attacking move will result in a short battle sequence which will leave only one piece alive on the board. Combat Chess also includes a more traditional set, also 3D rendered, for those who prefer the simple interface and would like to concentrate on defeating the AI. Novice players will find an easy-to-follow tutorial to learn chess basics.

Get Combat Chess right here on GOG.com for $2.39 only for the next 24 hours.
I think the news column on the right needs some tweaking. Or you should pay more attention to which story is going to be in the wider box and which in the narrower ones.

Because somehow, I don't think this gem promo will be as popular as today's release.
I'll skip this one. Waiting for weekend promo :-D

I dislike games where I always end up losing.

And chess is much more fun in real life because you can literally eat enemy's pieces, or throw them at his face. Your choice.
This didn't show up on Twitter, just FYI. :(
I guess it's better than nothing, but this milkshake will not bring all the boys to the yard
Animated chess? A gem?

Never considered that reaction in a chess game. Certainly gives a new twist in a match.

It worked for Battle Chess
This game seems to be such an underdog that I can't even find a gameplay video of it ... Not that I'm really into chess anyway, but if I was - is there anything that makes this more interesting than the original Battle Chess, or the Special Edition on top of it? I'd assume the one by Interplay would be the better choice for a chess addict?

You're thinking of the "old" definition of gem.
Exactly like GOG no longer means "Good Old Games", it just means "GOG" ---
gem no longer means "a gem of a game", it just means "a game that doesn't sell that well".

But one shouldn't gripe.
Every promo is wanted.
Every promo is good.
Every promo is needed
In your neighbourhood.

Don't do it. It's a trap!

I actually stumbled upon that one some time ago when I was googling similar games to the ole Battle Chess. To even think there's even an audience for a thing like that. *shakes head*
