Hey, maybe i missed some good games.....

So basically games from gog.com are only games i don't have a problem installing on my office computer. So playing games at work sometimes forces me to quick "alt-tab" the thing and instantly show pre-prepared important document.

Which games aside from Alpha Centauri and HoMM are good to make quick 5-60 minute break withoout hurting the experience?:)
kings of bounty is perfect for in between and also strategy like alpha centauri and HoMM
most of adventure games :)
Hey, that would be handy for using it at home, just in case the wife pops in while gaming:

- What are you doin'? playing games again?!
- No honey, I swear! It's just porn!
Any game packaged with DOSBox works quite well with Alt-Tab. Baldur's Gate and Planescape Torment works well too. Same for Arx Fatalis and Gothic. Might and Magic games works fine with it for me (although some users reported otherwise).

ScummVM games, on the other hand, doesn't not work well with Alt-Tab (with me anyway. The mouse cursor stays stuck on the upper left corner of the screen until the computer's restarted). Amerzone doesn't work with it either.
Far Cry works, since it automatically pauses the action and mutes the volume. The game sounds could be a problem, though, unless you're normally allowed to wear ear / headphones.

Just a thought: you might want to disguise the shortcut or .exe so it shows something else in the taskbar. I can look down and see that Far Cry is running, so that's a dead giveaway in an office.

Second thought: become your own boss and it won't matter! XD
Any game that can run in a window really, instant ALT-TABbing. Many games have custom mods for that as well.
I think there might have been one for Arcanum.

Oh and I don't see how you can play 4X games in short stints? I almost play them like an RTS, there's simply so much to manage and I can't take breaks lest I forget stuff.
Lords of the Realm 2 is usually ok with an alt tabbing, crashes every now and again, but it auto saves per turn.
I've been playing Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II, and Heroes of Might and Magic III lately, and have had no problems alt tabbing in any of them (and I've been doing a lot of it).
Hey, anyone remember some of the old games that actually had a "Boss Key" built right in, for this very purpose? They idea was, if your boss walked by your PC, you could quickly push the Boss Key and it would INSTANTLY switch to show a screen that looked like a spreadsheet chock full of important numbers! Very hilarious, but I don't remember what the games were. Possibly some of the old Sierra adventure games perhaps?

I remember the PC version of Tetris (the CGA one) being one of them. It showed a spreadsheet anytime you pushed the esc key.

I've only seen that in Leisure Suit Larry VII - Love for Sail (man, what a great game...)
I don't know which specific games work well with alt-tabbing, but seriously, leave it at turn based strategy games or adventure ones, unless the game pauses and mutes when you alt tab. I don't play games at work, but I've noticed racing games and RPGs have a tendency to make my body and face move in ways that clearly show I'm not working. You need games that'll give you "thinking" and "stumped" expressions, not "YEAAAH! I KILLED THE MOTHERFUCKEEER!!!" expressions.
