Not sure if this is important, but I don't think it should be the "GOG Games Wiki".

Aside from being redundant ( Good Old Games Games Wiki ), it effectively will make some things.. like the downloaders.. be out of place.

I think GOGCW (GOG Community Wiki) would be more appropriate.

Nice thought... loving it :)

Vagabond: I'd also like to apply for an admin position!
avatar
Damuna: I think we should probably at least have some type of vote about who is an admin, or wait before making a decision at least.
There may be no need if were going to have 4 or 5 then thats basically all tje people who were interested

Considering this thing lay dormant for YEARS I don't see people running for admin posts now. Maybe if this thing gets of the ground, we can redistribute the positions to reflect the amount people but in to it.

So far this idea is carried by a handful of people, and as far as I can see there is somewhat of a common ground between the more active one.

As an old saying goes, we shouldn't distribute the meat before the cow gets slaughtered...

I havent heard that saying before

I guess it's German, and I did a -very- rough translation of it. Actually, I don't even know what it is in "proper German" as I know it in the dialact I speak at home.

Yet, it fits!
I'll volunteer to help.
alright... found some time during work to set it up... I will give an access to a couple of volunteer to get the layout done first, before we post it to the public :)
the good thing with a wiki is, that everyone can contribute. What my intention was, that a couple of volunteers help to set it up and later moderate it (if people going to post shit).

First invite has been sent out. Next will be sent out, when I am at home from work :)

Love seeing our community getting together on a project like this......warms this Gamer's heart :)

Damuna: There's some unintuitive aspects to the wiki - for instance, the editing panel doesn't seem to accept "return" as a carriage return, so while it appears as such when editing, the actual page instead shows a space.
hmm, watched your post and it looks good to me, has line breaks and everything... very interesting.

Will have a look at home.

OK, I have already found it out and sent you a PM. This shall clear it up ;)

Damuna: So, we need to talk about page naming conventions. Do we use the name of the provided by GOG, such as Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga? Also, I'm not sure how to create redirects so that other names for games are associated with the page on which the game is detailed.
For Wikipedia, you make a page which redirects to the actual page by putting #REDIRECT on the page.

So, if we were to name a page Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga, and someone searches "Baldurs Gate," we have a page called Baldurs Gate with #REDIRECT [[Baldur's Gate: The Original Saga]]

This could be completely different for DokuWiki.

Damuna: It is. That's why I'm confused.
Just looked it up: http://www.dokuwiki.org/plugin:redirect Here's one plugin to redirect.

Ubivis: ok... I will take some time tonight to set up an DokuWiki... I think this is the best solution for this, as it is well upgradeable by PlugIns (and free at all *gg*).

Maybe we can set up a 3-5 head group, that are administrating the side?

Any volunteers?
Well, I'd consider myself proficient with programming, HTML, Wiki markup etc, so I'll volunteer for technical shenanigans, as well as content, as I double as an OCD spelling, grammar and punctuation freak. I also have a GOGPM account if you want to contact me. Sorry I'm a little late to the party on this, nice to see it's already set up etc, hope you'll accept my help.

Damuna: Incidentally, we can't use colons in our pagenames, as it's used as a separator by the software - for example, all of our game pages would be like games:tyrian_2000
IIRC, if you leave a space after the colon, it can be used in the name. DokuWiki recognizes space as an indicator of "this is actually text, not internal formatting".

I'm thinking we probably want to create standardised information boxes about games - developer, original/current publisher, original/GOG release date, game engine, version, that sort of stuff. I don't know how to produce a box for that sort of thing in this type of wiki, though.
I am with you on that one. Such a box would be immensly helpful for a "first glance" view. We should also write some "basic rules" or "does and donts".

And how do we tread collections? Is say, one page for each game in general. But some exceptions can of course be different.

I see there is progress as I type, nice... let me see what I can do ...
