Actually, word substitution would give:
Just because I hit Joe with a pole, doesn't mean it is my pole.
Just because I claimed to be sheep, doesn't mean it is my
sheep.
This is why I was confused and said it's not comparable. -_-; The action is the verb, so 'hit' and 'claim'. It's more obvious if neither sentence has an object, i.e., "I hit with a pole = not my pole. I claim sheep = not my sheep."
But anyway.
