We know you're busy people, but would you like to contribute to an even better GOG? How about taking 5 minutes of your time to make the GOG experience an outstanding one?

Our main goal when designing GOG.com was to create the best user experience in digital distribution ever. Many say we're doing it right, but we want to get even better, that's why we're launching a survey that will help us lead GOG in the way you'd like it to go. Taking part in it isn't required of course, but if you want to have your share in making GOG the best digital distribution service there is (or at least even better than it is right now) and maybe win a free game, devote few minutes of your time to answer couple questions we've prepared. From all users who will take part in the survey, we'll randomly choose 20 who will receive a free GOG game of their choice. Grab a pencil... er, a keyboards in your hands and answer the below questions for a better future for all of us :)

The survey ends on Thursday, October 27 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.
You know I didn't put a lot of weight in the survey for extras. However I just bought some games (not on gog) from DotEmu and they don't have any extras and it somehow feels a bit lacking. I like how gog include soundtracks and little extras when they can get them.

Also downloads from GOG are significantly faster that DotEmu which is much better when you have a few large games you've just bought. It took me 9 hours or more to get 4.2gb of a game down from DotEmu from gog that would be 3 hours, 4 at the most.

gogfiend: I completely agree about the wanted list, but my god, I would simply stop using the site if GOG starts using an external client for things like that. One of the brilliant things about GOG is that all of it is on-site. There is no clutter. There is no bloatware.
There is a wanted list, gogfiend. http://www.gog.com/en/wanted/ For some reason I kept forgetting how to find it so I bookmarked it. The question is, does GOG pay attention to it? Considering some of the things listed there, I doubt it.

Just a minor note from me to GoG creators:

I'd buy any new title on GOG withouth DRM even if the price would be somewhat higher than in retail or on Steam (yes, I'd go for simple web-based-download instead of steam platform distribution any time night and day - I hate to have software that downloads other software with software for copy-protection. That's ridicioulus).
Well I already submitted the poll, but you know what would be really nice? Linux executables. They should be quite easy to do too - Both DosBox and Wine allow for executable wrappers and most of these old games run on Wine just fine. That would be really great.

Also, why not include some abandonware? If the ware is really, legally abandoned, you might put it up for free or for a symbolic price. There are lots of games which aren't owned by anyone since the parent company has collapsed long time ago.

Finally, one game suggestion: DarkSeed II. It was never officially released (only on magazine covers etc.) and it's a real bitch to run on system newer than Win 3.1. I'd like to play this creepy game designed by H.R.Giger (of Alien fame) again!
Also, two more options would be nice (these ideas come from humble bundles)

1) Ability to download via torrents. For some people it could be faster and it lowers the strain on the servers.

2) "Name your own price" option, for example on some weekend deals. Humble bundles has shown that people actually often pay more when such a chance arises.

A86: [i]The feature I would like to see the most is a WANTED LIST. A list of classic games missing from GOG's catalogue that GOG's staff would come up with and would be constantly enriched with community's suggestions. Here's how I think that feature would work perfectly for both GOG (as a business) and its members:
For every game listed, every GOG members with at least one game purchased, will be able to vote whether...
i) It would definitely buy the game at full price
II) It would definitely buy the game when it goes on sale
iii) It doesn't care about the game at all
This way GOG would know exactly how to prioritize its future releases, so that not only would you guys know where to focus in order to earn the most cash, but we (your loyal members) would get our most wanted games sooner. In other words a win-win situation... ;)
I love this idea, I support it whole heartedly. My first is vote is Wing Commander: Prophecy Gold.
No to newer games. It's not really what I come to GoG for. While DRM free and goodies like wallpaper and soundtrack are nice I don't think GoG will be able to compete with services like Steam in terms of price and selection.

true and most companies want it drm
First, I would like to discuss how old a game would have to be in order to be considered old? For example my favorite title that isn't on GOG that I wish they had is Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3 Raven Shield & Athena Sword (Gold Edition). This game was released in 2003-2004, putting it at 7-8 years of age. However, this game is classic in essence; it is the last true tactical shooter that Ubisoft created before they decided to change the direction of the franchise thus ... Rainbow Six Vegas :(.

So I don't know how others feel about a 7-8 year old game being on GOG, but perhaps there can be 2 sections of sections for games: Classics (games released before 2000? and no DRM) and Contemporary classics (games released after 2000 but limited to 2005?with or without DRM since publishers are less likely to accept to publish non DRM games). Either way I want my Rainbow Six 3 :)

Also the GOG wanted list should be made easier to find, I have read some previous posts and saw that some members had issues finding it. It is located in the forums FAQ, but shouldn't something like that be on the front page or something?

Another topic is DRM, GOG reputation is based upon giving classic titles with NO DRM. I personally think that this could in the long term can limit GOGs catalogue. Old classic games to my knowledge lacked true DRM, newer games that will soon become classics already have DRM systems in place. For GOG to add a game they would have to negotiate to remove the DRM, which the publisher could decline, and as a result no game on GOG. So for me no DRM is not a priority, it is getting out good old games back. I just want my games.

"What do you feel would be a fair price to charge for these newer games?"

If there is no DRM, I would pay almost anything! I mean, anything reasonable of course. Even if it costs a little more that market value, I *HATE* *HATE* *HATE* DRM crap. Half the time the games don't even work because of it. It just completely turns me off buying new games. I will *NOT* buy Civ 5 (although it seems pretty crappy anyway, but I love Civ).

I was going to buy Need for Speed: Carbon a while ago, but I didn't have internet at the time so it would have been $50 wasted, and I wouldn't even have been able to return it! Luckily my friend owned a cheated version and told me it connects to the internet each time before play so I knew not to waste my money. Isn't that funny? I, who was going to spend real money on the game, couldn't play it, but my friend, who got a cheated version and spent *no* money, got to play fine. Shows how stupid DRM stuff is!

Why does no one realize, the more restrictions there are on an item, the less people will buy it. It's just common business sense. And it doesn't deter cheaters. If people want to find a way to steal things, they will, no matter what it takes.
I would love to see new games and an optional client. ^ ^
About the DRM I don't care much about it, if it let the game work fine and don't give me stupid errors (like buy the DLC but don't be able to download it -> GFWL ¬¬) it's ok for me.
Man, an optional client would be gogtastic! It would not only make our lives easier, but also help the community grow even stronger!

Also, adding recent games is a totally valid idea!

I do strongly agree.
Survey done :)

Actually abandonware is not really legal, it is a term made up by people to justify getting games that are no longer available. I used to get abandonware but I know it wasn't quite legal. GOG is a business as such they have to sell games legally. In the past abandonware has come back on the market at games sites as rights holders have decided to make them available. If you just take a game and stick it up someone somewhere will get some lawyers involved and no more GOG. They just can't do that no matter how good a game might be, how long it has been unavailable for sale or how hard it is to track down the rights holders.
