Fred_DM: people are just adding every game on principle, which is pointless. GoG isn't going to add brand-new 2000 games.

bevinator: The wishlist exists to help GOG gauge support and desire for individual games. It helps them figure out which publishers to focus on. So it's the opposite of pointless.
Actually, it doesn't do that at all, since GOG's focus is now and always has been to get all the publishers and all the games they can. They have never targeted any one publisher or game over another based on anything in that wishlist. Not to mention, none of the numbers on it can be considered even slightly accurate as long as multiple versions of the same games with slightly different wording/spelling exist. Which version is the correct gauge of how popular a game really is? The only reason the wishlist exists is to keep people from posting multiple "I want this game" threads on the forums.

Looking at the top50 list Kodeen linked shows wonderfully that at the top the list cleans up itself, so there is really no problem with it.

Fred_DM: indies? hardly comparable to games like Skyrim, Rage or Dead Island. SteamWorks is an integrated suite that includes multiplayer matchmaking, updating, etc. no way these games will ever turn up outside of Steam.

Indeed, but very few games actually make use of Steamworks multiplayer, and the updates and DRM have nothing to do with Steamworks itself. The only Steamworks features that 90% of games make use of are the achievements and leaderboards, and these are very easily strippable from the code.

Aside from Valve's own games and most of the indie Source games, which all use Steamworks for matchmaking, there are very few triple-A games that make proper use of VAC/Steamworks. Off the top of my head, I can name the Total War games, Modern Warfare 2 and 3, Space Marine and Dead Island. There are probably more, but not more than 30 or so. Most games have superficial Steamworks support in the form of achievements and have not been designed from the ground up as Steamworks titles.

You forget that Skyrim could be run without Steam running until Bethsoft forced a patch upon us that required Steam to run each time, and RAGE's support for Steamworks was also limited to achievements (RAGE's multiplayer wasn't handled by Steamworks).

The majority of pure Steamworks games are, indeed, indie titles. In fact, Super Meat Boy was one of the most Steamworks-integrated games I knew of until they released it in the last Humble Bundle - stripped of leaderboard functionality, of course.

rodrolliv: I hope the Thief games will disappear soon, too :)

Is there a reason for showing only the Top 10? It would be interesting to see at least those which have 100+ votes, IMO.

cogadh: Because not too far beyond the top 10, the list starts getting ridiculous. Some pretty stupid things have gotten much more than 100 votes. I think at one point "Moar Buttsecks" had 100+ votes, just as an example.
It's got 29 votes now... no wait, 30

No, that's "more buttsecks". The original "Moar Buttsecks" appeared on the list not long after its debut 3 years ago and easily got 200 votes before GOG deleted it. Of course that was back when GOG was actively managing the list on a regular basis and still deleted things like that. They don't even bother cleaning up that stuff anymore.

Is there a background to this joke, or am I the only one who doesn't get it?
My favorite new entry is Street Fucker II.

fair enough, but over the next few years, that's a rather remote possibility, i should think. i'd also reckon that the contract a publisher has with Steam would prevent the games in question to turn up without SteamWorks.

i'm just saying: keep the wishlist realistic. think about what you're adding. all those wishful thinking entries will only make the list more annoying to analyse.
I thought we had all agreed that Pizza is the most important entry right now?
Is it possible delete released games from top 10?
