Cormoran: Here it was still $60, down from its normal price of $90 (obviously I wasn't going to pick it up for either price). I can literally buy Watch Dogs, an upcoming AAA release, for the same price I could buy MW2 on special four and a half years after its release.
It was 11,50€ or something like that. The regular price is 24,99€ here. And you're perfectly sure that the prices you're talking about were those of MW2, not MW3?

ggf162: Eh, I guess the first two had their moments but the rest are rather mediocre and "same-y".

JohnnyDollar: They were on sale this past weekend and I considered it. I searched a little trying to find opinions about the single player. A lot of folks mentioned the first 2 like you, in particular the 2nd one. The 4th one got a lot of praise too, and one of the Black Ops versions.
They weren't on sale. You were getting ripped off slightly less than before, that's it :p. They still cost more than they should.

Tallima: A lot of people like to play COD. I don't know why. I've never liked that sort of game ("Half-Life multiplayer" style is what I call it -- live short, die short).
As a fan of classic deathmatch games I'm almost offended that you put CoD into one category with Half-Life.

avatar
drmlessgames: I would like to see them make a WW2 where you play as the Nazis or Werhmatch, however you spell it.
avatar
hmcpretender: You spell it "Wehrmacht"
True, but Wehrmatch would be an awesome name for a multiplayer mode in a WW2 shooter.

Red_Avatar: ... and Activision really is a scummy greedy slimey company. I still think that EA is actually in third place after Activision and Ubisoft when it comes to horrible publishers. They're all pretty crap but still, if you look at the crap they all pull ...
avatar
jamyskis: Agreed.

I remember a year or so ago (one Christmas or another) they had an Activision rep at an electronics store in Hamburg peddling Skylanders. They were encouraging kids as young as 7-8 to play on the Xboxes before suddenly having their session pulled and being actively told to tell their parents that they wanted these 'packs' for Christmas.

I told the cunt exactly what I thought of his tactics, and ended up being escorted out by a security guard.
There's nothing worse than companies exploiting kids. Especially for over-priced crap like Skylanders. It's like drugs for kids - despicable.

When I was a kid, you had cartoons created to sell toy lines but
a) the toys were brilliant
b) the cartoons were brilliant

These days you got Skylanders and apps with in-app payments to seduce kids with ... . I mean lord - Skylanders has "toys" which you can't play with. They're like small statuettes - great for displaying but useful for playing with. The games aren't that fun either, especially not considering how much the toys cost! It's just extreme greed without the quality to make it forgivable. I mean, Transformers and GI Joe were just amazing both as cartoons and toys - my nephew is still crazy of the GI Joe toys and he never even SAW the cartoons.

*brofist*

I'm almost surprised, though, that shit like that actually works in Germany. I mean, Germany is pretty strong when it comes to consumer rights and stuff, I can imagine that there is a paragraph somewhere that actually made that whole event in this form illegal.

Yup, quite sure.

Current prices for Call of Duty games on Australian Steam:
COD 1: $19.99
COD 2: $19.99
United Offensive: $19.99
World At War: $39.99

Modern Warfare 1: $49.99
Modern Warfare 2: $89.99 (All DLCs: $29.98)
Modern Warfare 3: $39.99 (I'm guessing they screwed up somewhere on this one) (All DLCs: $59.96)

Black Ops 1: $89.99 (All DLCs: $59.96)
Black Ops 2: $89.99 (Digital Deluxe Edition: $109.99, Season Pass: $69.99 or All DLCs: $123.68)

Ghosts: $89.99 (Digital Hardened Edition: $134.95, Season Pass: $59.99 or All DLCs: $56.40)

Advance Warfare: $89.99

Note that all prices are in USD so it actually costs us a bit more in AUD.

Dang, indeed, something doesn't quite add up. Seems like someone screwed up a few things when defining the Australian prices. Modern Warfare 3 costs 59.99€ here, MW1 and MW2 24.99€ each.

Sounds like a good example for the "You Had One Job!" meme.

European pricing just as bad.

Call of Duty®: Ghosts - Digital Hardened Edition:
Price in EU region: €119,99 ($165 USD)
Prince in US region: $99

That's more than 40% we have to pay more, on an already overpriced game

And for an 4 year old game:
Call of Duty®: Black Ops(2010): €59,99 (=83 USD)

I don't even buy new games for that price:o

drmlessgames: Well, at least with these many CoDs they should lower the prices on the earlier ones. It's about time.
Oh God yes! I'd like to give these games a try if only to see what all the fuss/anger is about. But £15 for a game from 2000? Outrageous! (As Aquaman would say). To get a COD game at a decent price I'd have to buy a used copy from Amazon. I don't mind buying used games but I hate buying from a billion dollar retailer who won't pay their taxes >:(

The thing that really depresses me is that every time they "go on sale" for more than they cost to buy used, or even new on amazon (I'd did the maths. Yeah I have a lot of free time) they always hit the top sellers list.
I don't to say people who buy from Steam are stupid (I'm one of them) but who is paying up to 10 quid more a bargain?

Edit:
Looking on the Steam page I see that Kevin Spacey's PMC group are called the Atlas corporation..... Activision, Bioshock came out 7 years ago and even with Kevin Spacey doing the voice work you are never going to top it in the Objectivist villain stakes, let alone as a game. I think you missed the boat here :P

I find it weird that they focus on the story. Specially that political speech I heard on the trailer. Are they seriously expecting to attract people concerned about the story to buy COD? Really?

I'd like someone to introduce me to someone who buys games for the story and went to buy COD. Or anyone not interested on the multiplayer who is considering to buy COD, for that matter.

Hadn't had a look on these for years. So they kinda built a "framework game" for their longstanding customers, "Milking the cow", offering gamers an unique opportunity to play a bovine role
