"It's time for a face to face chat with my old friend Sheriff Truart. Work out our differences, show him the little piece of evidence I lifted from the Mechanists. I'm sure he'll appreciate the consequences if this were to be made public. Truart was acting for somebody when his cronies ambushed me back at the Crippled Burrick inn... I bet he'll be happy to tell me who that was."

Love the Thief games, some of the best games ever made.
"They just don't make bears like they used to"
Guards talking just outside the house of Lord Bafford in the first mission.
"This proves it... going legit is more trouble than it's worth...."

Thanks for the giveaway!
"On the Last Day, there will be no words...and we will know the face of our betrayer... - Excerpt from the Keeper Book of Days"
"This was not the way things were supposed to go. Constantine has The Eye, and MY eye, and I doubt he has anything wholesome planned for it. So the Trickster was real after all, I doubt anyone except the Hammers believed in the ancient gods. Those crazy Hammers. You know, it wouldn't hurt to have a dozen of heavily armed fanatics by my side. I'll drop by their temple and explain things, hopefully they'll be so distracted with the Trickster's return that they'll forget to hold a grudge. And even if they don't, I know how to get out of Cragscleft prison already."

-Mission XIV: Strange Bedfellows (Thief dark project)

Thanks!
"That shot was meant for me"

Then some guy says he was sure it was Garret who got killed and he and his friend leave, meaning you have to follow them. You also get to use the moss arrow on that level.

For some reason that quote stuck in my mind, even if I don't find it particularly interesting or memorable.

Oh, and the guys keep saying "Is somebody following us!?" if you get too close.

Never played the metal Age, though. I only managed to get my hands on the first Thief many years ago.

Thanks for the giveaway!

"There Are Those To Whom Knowledge Is A Shield,
And Those To Whom It Is A Weapon.
Neither View Is Balanced,
But One Is Less Unwise." -Keeper Annals
"keepers never alter the truth...just keep it in the shadows"
"The Builder Has Gifted Thee
With The Greatest Of All Treasures - The Future!
But Thine Own Will Forges The Key That Opens The Lock." -Karras, Private Correspondence
My favorite quote in the series is this:
"What is locked can be opened. What is hidden can be found. What is yours can be mine."

EDIT: Of course I have only played Thief 3, so my favoritism may be biased :-P

from memory - "Did they cry, when they heard what you must do? Did they say no, do not do this, it will destroy us all? I suppose that is what they must think, and I suppose they are right" - The Eye, Deadly Shadows.

It's been a few years since I played deadly shadows, but can't find that text. Anyone got it?

Close, it's:

"Did they cry, your quasi-brethren? Did they scream 'Do not do this thing! It will destroy us all!'? I suppose that's what they must believe. And I suppose they are right."

Pulled straight from the TDS sound files.
