Since Microsoft or its forums won't answer me, I decided to try here.
I have one of those 360 Wireless Controller thingies for my PC. I can get it to connect just fine on all XP computers, but no such luck with my Vista. I even downloaded the Vista-specific drivers! Once in a blue moon, the controller will work, but as soon as I restart my computer, it stops working again! Anyone know how to solve this?

Have you tried to mate the 360 controller and the wireless receiver in vista. Otherwise, I would say remove the wireless receiver, uninstall the drivers, reboot, install the latest drivers 32bit here and 64bit here, reboot if asked, then plug in your receiver. After it's detected, turn on your 360 controller and mate the controller and receiver.

I was also going to mention to try to use third party drivers, but I can't find any.

A problem I used to have with mine was that it wasn't getting enough power. The receiver would turn on just fine, but it wouldn't connect to the controller.
Try unplugging your other USB peripherals and have just the wireless receiver plugged in. That's what worked for me (My keyboard used too much power for its backlights) and eventually I just bought a USB hub that plugs into a wall socket so I can power all of my USB stuff.

yeah, an external usb hub is best for this, this issue is documented in the wiki

It's either a power problem, or an internal identification problem.
The power problem requires you to get a powered USB hub, or disconnect everything else when you want to use the controller.
To fix the other one, disconnect all USB devices, restart your computer, plug in the wireless receiver, and then plug everything else in. This is what I needed to do to fix mine...
