adambiser: Hey, thanks. You don't have to. I'm glad to have helped. But if you still feel like it later on, feel free to PM me then.

I just wanted to help you get it going because I know how frustrating it can be to own a game that you can no longer play. It looks like a good game (despite some bad reviews). Too bad they had to close and the game is out of print.
Alright. Expect to hear from me hopefully soon. I am owed some money and should be getting a check this week, but if not I will definitely contact you as soon as I have more than $3 in my account. lol

shadesofdeath320: I may be shit out of luck here, but I need help getting this game to run. Initially, I got an error where it said my version of windows was incompatible, since the game was made for xp. This was fixed with a patch I downloaded online.

Now the game runs until it reaches a certain point on the loading screen. Then it crashes and I get an error stating "mcStreamBin.cpp(60): File not opened <DATA/SHADER/STDMATDX8.FX>

A quick search in the game's files showed that this particular file is missing. Other people had the same problem online, but I could find no solution, and the makers, Monte Cristo, shut their doors a few years ago.

Now I found a file in another folder that had a separate shader folder that was stdmatsx8.fx.bin, along with some .fx files that were not in the main shader folder. I tried halfheartedly knowing it was not the right file but I was willing to try anyway to no avail.

No compatability mode combinations worked, either.

I don't know much about running a game in an xp emulator, but maybe that would make a difference?

Or finding a way to get the missing file somehow?

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated, but I should probably accept it won't be happening.
Me

Hiya
What did you download to get past the compatibility option, because i found a file from:
www.gspsupport.co.UK/media/patches/Medieval_Lords.exe
But whenever it opens it comes up with an error saying ""BuildingEditor" in not working" then quits the application.
Much appreciated

That is the one you need. You might try reinstalling the game fresh and using the patched EXE.

I have tried doing this several times but i'm still getting the same error message "BuilderEditor has stopped working" and i can't play the game as it closes the application
Thx

TomWilson:
Once you have that .fx file, you don't need anything checked on the "Compatibility" tab. Be sure to uncheck everything.

I can't find anyone else with that error on the internet, so I'm not sure what to do to solve it.

Alright.
Cheers for the help i will try this and see if it works.

Hopefully that does work for you.
Sorry I've been a way for a few days. Busy with tests, papers, the gym, and getting kicked in the face.

I think I had a crash similar to that once, but it hasn't happened since I got the game working thanks to adambiser.

I am assuming you are using the fixed exe file, which is necessary, and then went into Medieval Lords/data/plateforme/data/shader ...

and found the stdmatdx8.fx.bin file

My problem was that it was not reading the file so I copied and renamed renamed it to just stdmatdx8.fx, which converted it to an fx file and put it into ...

Medieval Lords/bin/data/shader

After that the game ran fine.

I hope you cam get it running. Few things get on my nerves more than having a game you can't play.

I remember getting this error while helping with the original post's problem. I uninstalled and reinstalled and that seemed to make the problem go away. That's what did it for me. Sorry I can't help more than that, but I hope that reinstalling fixes it for you.

adambiser: OK. Here are the instructions on how to fix this error:

1) I've attached the missing file to this post renamed as a PNG file.
2) Download the attached file and rename it to "StdMatDX8.fx" (no quotes).
3) Move that file into the Data\Shader folder.

That's it!

Hey, :) Finally I thank to you I found an answer to my problem but unfortunately I can't get the attachment :( It open a new black tab, nothing else. Can you upload it again maybe...?

Thanks for your time

You'll need to right-click and "save as" the new name. It's not really a PNG file, but this forum only allows "image" attachments.

Well I needn't do anything like that. I followed your steps in my own way and it worked.
1. replace the Medieval_Lords.exe
2.Change the file you said from .bin to .fx

and then the game plays.... anyway thanks for the help :)
