The Ultimate Carnage Experience.

Crimsonland, the SHMUP that shoots first and forgets to ask questions later, is available for 70% off on GOG.com for the next 24 hours!

There is no time to waste on a backstory, there are no space marines, no zombie apocalypse. It's just you, the creatures, and over 30 unique weapons at your disposal - some are shooty, some explode, and some are just plain unusual. As you unload your fury on anything that moves, you'll earn perks for that additional kick of awesome: set monsters on fire with a glance, turn into a ninja, or unleash a deadly plague. This 2014 remaster of the textbook shoot 'em up is everything a fan could ask for: tighter controls, a colorful high definition spectacle, and the ultimate carnage of local co-op for up to 4 players. As you progress through the game you'll unlock new weapons and perks to build your arsenal for the ultimate challenge: Survival Mode. If you're nostalgic for the experience that captured gamers' hearts back in 2003, we're throwing in the original Crimsonland as part of the package!

Shoot 'em all up with a touch of RPG in the remastered Crimsonland 70% off on GOG.com! The promotion lasts until Tuesday, December 23, at 10:59AM GMT.

Boilpoint: Maybe I'm getting confused, but isn't the classic promo usually on Monday, and the indie promo on Wednesday? Is it just getting switched up this week?

ggf162: It is actually a classic promo, the original was released in 2003 and is included in the bonus downloads.
Oh, I didn't realize this was a remake. Thanks for the info.

awalterj: This is a pretty cool game to blow off some steam in shorts bursts of time. I highly recommend playing the classic version first (included in the bonus downloads) as I didn't like the remastered version that much, reasons given here.

For its current promo price, I definitely recommend picking it up if you want simple mindless carnage. This game even manages to outclass the Alien Shooter series in terms of carnage, in fact I can't think of a game with more blood on the dance floor than Crimsonland. It is aptly named, that one must admit. Just please, do check out the classic version first!

EDIT: Forgot to point out that the remastered version has all the splatter while the classic version has (imho) better gameplay, so you should try both to see what suits your taste more.
Yeah, there are some potential balance issues that people have complained about on the game's forums.

Yes, there is indeed a potential balance issue when you try to beat something like the Spideroids level with a blowtorch... :)

One thing that is quite unfortunate is how they seriously nerfed the ion rifle in the remastered version. In Crimsonland Classic, The ion rifle is a perfectly fine weapon, one of my favorites. In the new version, you can pretty much restart the level if you get the ion rifle as it does way too little damage to secondary targets. I've uninstalled the remastered version a couple weeks ago but the classic version is still on my HD. It has balance issues too and is far from perfect but there aren't too many games like that so imho it does deserve a spot in a classic game collection.
