Vagabond: GameTap was cool for discovering games, then purchasing them from someplace else.

cogadh: Fixed. GT is pretty much useless now.

Yes, they were great; now many games don't work. Their customer service doesn't know is ass from a hole in the ground. The funniest thing was is that in June I suddenly didn't see any of my games. So I submitted a ticket to both branches of their official support and got absolutely no response. I was then thinking to myself, was I ever charged my annual - fee? No, it turns out they managed to loose me in the transition and I got about 2 months of free service. But their support didn't even respond and say we don't have in record of your payment. I am glad they screwed up; I saved some money.

Petrell: And if I remember correctly, games from GameTap can't be modified so you can't use mods on them. And they fixed the 64-bit incomaptibitility yet?

They have no support for 64-bit other than their retro or classic pack (whatever they call it), and they've lost many subscriptions because of it.

GameTap is preparing to roll out a new DRM system which will allow both mods and 64-bit support, but they will have to go through the catalogue piece by piece to re-encode everything (the previous system wasn't future-proofed, unlike Steam where you just have to update the EXE and you're good to go).
64-bit systems can currently play arcade games and 8-bit console titles. Everything else is 32-bit-only until the DRM rollout is complete.

doomer: It isn't a problem, gog and steam don't have live support too...
i sent a question to gametap on 18:14 and they answered on 18:19, 5 minutes waiting ^^

That has not been my experience - I have probably contacted gametap 6+ times since the April transition. At least 4+ times I got actually no response; and the responses I got were useless.
GOG does something that gametap does not do - they respond on the forums for techinical problems that do arise. Plus even if you are a paying customer on gametap; you get bombarded by ads.
I checked them back in '06 I believe and the game selection sucked. After all this time I figured Gametap would have more games. It's sad that they can't get more fish to jump onboard this idea. I've never joined but it's not bad for about 10 bucks a month.
If you really want those classic games and can't wait for GOG. Find a computer with Windows XP, install DOSBox for those really old DOS titles. The two places you need to shop for Games are Ebay and Amazon. Don't just flatout buy something wait for a few days and see if there's a better deal. Sometimes you can find people offloading their collections and don't care what they get for them. The lastly place I would check are Thrift stores it's mostly a waste of time, but on the otherhand sometimes you can find a diamond in the rough. Once I got Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 & Expansions for 14$.
To add, Windows Vista can run alot of old games but there are a few trouble makers that won't run no matter what you do.
Hope I gave someone some ideas. Have fun collecting.

I got a Gametap subscription so I could play Jericho for only $9.99 when it came out around Halloween 2 years ago. I was surprised to see the number of other good games on it, including Sam and Max. I stopped the subscription last year because I was moving and forgot about it.
Then, last month, I saw an ad and got the urge to play through their catalog again after seeing how many new games they had. So I subscribed, paid my $9.99, and tried downloading a game....whoops, 64 bit incompatibility! An hour later I'm going through the refund process.
They need to fix their incompatibility issue by the time Windows 7 rolls out, because 64 bit users are probably going to multiply.
