Why has no one mentioned the Witcher series yet?

JudasIscariot: Have you also heard of Tangiers? http://tangiersgame.com/

Also, Vangers, which is on our site, is filled to the brim with strange worlds :D
Yes, someone already mentioned Vangers, but it's really not my genre at all.

Tangiers I had never heard of, and it looks positively fantastic. Thank you!

Because it doesn't have strange world in any way. In fact, it has one of the most familiar worlds out of all fantasy RPGs.

I disagree. A game world that borrows heavily from Slavic mythology is only familiar to people who live in Eastern Europe. Or to people who read the Witcher books.

It is quite far removed from classic western fantasy tropes, IMHO.

I live in Central Europe and have red all the Witcher books ;-) Seriously tho, it's just dark fantasy with cool architecture and mythology. It's nowhere near as removed from fantasy clichés as other games mentioned here.

I'm from western Europe (France), with no real contact with eastern mythology, and I found the Witcher to be pretty classic fantasy. Good classic fantasy, mind you, that makes good use of the standard elements, but not really "exotic"
