KhalidYousif: Sorry I have no idea. Probably the usual chick flicks :)
Well then, "To The Moon" we go!
Most girls I've know that liked video games liked Resident Evil a lot. A few liked Warcraft and Street Fighter also.

Your results may vary though.

Leroux: Did she express interest in them or are you trying to 'convert' her? Also, is she open-minded or sceptical / pre-judiced towards videogames? That might be important factors in choosing the right game, too.
avatar
KhalidYousif: No, I am trying to convert her. :D

She thinks that video games are silly, for kids and a huge waste of time. I am trying to change her mind by letting her play something close to her interests and find out how much video games can be fun. She got lots of free time anyway.

lowyhong: What kind of novels/poetry? Also, what Leroux said.
avatar
KhalidYousif: Romance and drama :)
Get her Analogue: A Hate Story. It is a visual novel (and thus more likely to appeal to someone you enjoys reading) dealing with the effects of women oppression in misogynistic societies. If she finds that to be childish I'll eat my hat. Also make sure to tell her that the game was created by a woman, since that might pique her interest.

FlatOut 2
World of Goo
Peggle and Peggle Nights

Hey Damuna long time no see!
i would say
adventure ways the blackwell series is awesome .

for co-op game you could try out borderlands 2 or any game that has a open world
avatar
lowyhong: - The Longest Journey
- Grim Fandango (if you can get a copy of it)
- Gemini Rue
All 3 of these times a million.
Maybe Cinders?

http://moacube.com/games/cinders/

I have only played the demo, but I really enjoyed that early bit of it. It is a simple point and click, based in a "known" story-arc, but it seems to do a good job making the characters interesting. And you play as Cinders (i.e. Cinderella).

As to the OP, all of my suggestions have been covered already. Good luck!

I might also suggest Dear Esther, but you should be aware as to what sort of game it is. It's a bit difficult to explain though, but I'll try anyway. Basically the player has a bizarrely passive role, one of an observer rather than an active participant, so it's a bit like Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy in that respect; you can move around and that's about it. The story is revealed through ambiguous monologue, leaving it up to the player to figure out what it was all about, which kind of reminded me of Limbo (another game I enjoyed hugely). There are lots of vague references to the Bible, kanji symbols and what have you. The visuals are gorgeous. To me it seems like the sort of game a poetry-liking person would appreciate.

Mind you, the game takes about an hour or two to complete. This might be a problem to people who judge a game by how many hours of their life it wastes and/or how many dollars each hour costs. Since it's a present, neither should be a problem. Who knows, a non-gamer might even appreciate the shortness of it.

The game is available DRM-free on the developers' website in case you got intrigued.

Jorean: Replace wine with cheep beer and Minecraft with Call of Duty or Guitar hero and you have actual pickup lines I have heard.
avatar
timppu: Two questions instantly pop into mind:

1. Did they say yes?

2. If so, what did they do in the end? Play Call of Duty or Guitar Hero whole night?

(and of course I don't know your gender and whether those pickup lines were for you?)

Anyway, if someone really pondered what kind of games would make him popular among ladies, I'd think he had no chance to begin with.
1. I had a boyfriend at the time so I had to pass. I would have still said no. Haha. Offering a gal PBR back at his house to begin with is an instant fail in my book.

Vestin: I have to echo the suggestion of The Longest Journey - it's a wonderful game and it's especially tailored for people who value exploration and have the patience to listen to lengthy (but fascinating !) dialog... over people who, well, are more into instant clicking gratification.
It also has one of the coolest female characters in a game, one that really grows on you, and that she perhaps might identify with in one way or another. I can say for sure that April Ryan owns most of the stupid, annoying and 2d female characters that are usually featured in romance novels. The story and the (as mentioned) abundance of dialogue make it perfect for people who enjoy stories/books.

A game that is universally loved (even adored) by non-gamers is Machinarium. It's cute, charming, short, you can sell it as a cartoon for all ages that develops the brain/iq, and it has romance too :) And a little bit of (lighthearted) drama.

It's a bit of a stretch, but perhaps with your help - Planescape Torment?

Oh and generally, in the future, let her try FF8 (hint: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlfH3r780So ), and FF10 if you own a ps2 that you can lend her (show her the suteki da ne scene to sell it :) it is such a spoiler though, but it will make her interested for sure. and perhaps this scene http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PWC6vUext0&feature=related)
Both games are as a rule adored by girls (there are girls who like and play only jrpgs and no other games, and always consider ffs to be their favs), and ff10 will make her cry like a baby. Which, if I am to judge by korean drama fans, is something that a lot of girls who like romances and drama are totally into.

Oh, if only I could find a girl who likes to dress up like Jeanette and play VTMB... :-)

Oh wait, wrong kind of thread.

Funny.

I have that same fantasy too :3
I was about to suggest Beyond Good and Evil, but the no-fighting part obviously rules it out.
