Just saw this on Steam. And now I WANT it.
Abyss Odyssey: http://store.steampowered.com/app/255070/

Does this game count? It's a roguelike, 2d hack and slash with random levels.

If this comes to GOG it's going to be an insta buy for me.

For me it's difficult to call this truly Castlevania like. How can a procedurally generated world ever compare to precise level design where access to areas is intertwined with the character ability upgrades? Not that I have anything to say against Abyss Odyssey or roguelikes, but I don't think roguelike really fits easily with the Metroidvania concept either.

Abyss Odyssey does look cool though, the Chilean origin should be a refreshing change from the typical themes from western and Japanese designers. Bring it to GOG!

I will second IanM's recommendation of Valdis Story: Abyssal City. This game takes a huge page from the modern 2D Castlevania games.

As for Castlevania games themselves, if you have a PSP, I highly recommend Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles. It is a remake of Rondo of Blood, the game that takes place before Symphony of the Night. As a bonus, you can unlock the original PC-Engine version of the game as well as a revised version of SotN.
Soul of Dracula is a freeware game that might as well be called "Castlevania: Fan Sequel"; it's just an all around perfect homage that feels like an SNES or Genesis title for the series. The instructions are only in Japanese, but the game itself is in English (not that there's much reading to be done).

I just remembered about an old game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dzk71rQcurU

Return of Egypt is a free game released in the mid 2000's and if not mistaken the language is in Japanese.
There are actually quite a few on PC these days (it used to be a sub-genre that was almost unheard of on PC). Anyway, here are my recommendations:

Dust: An Elysian Tale
La-Mulana (this one is very hard)
Aquaria
Cave Story

Here are a few other games that I've not played
Valdis Story
Magicians & Looters
Super Panda Adventure
Bunny must Die

And some non-PC titles:
The rest of the GBA Castlevania games
Castlevania: Symphony of the NIght
All of the Metroid games
Not heard of Magicians & Looters. Nice art style. Shame I cant have a wishlist on Desura
Shantae for GBC and the sequel that's on DSiware and now on Steam! :)

Also Kid Icarus. I haven't played it but I heard it's a good platformer and it's also a Metroidvania.

Mosesvania, that is hilarious. How have I missed this? I think I need to play this now.
If Aquaria counts then so does Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet.

gotenz: Hello guys! I just finished castlevania Aria of sorrow not long ago and i really want to play 2d side scrolling style of game like castlevania. Anybody have any recommendation?

Klumpen0815: Have you already finished "Symphony of the Night", "Circle of the Moon", "Dawn of Sorrow" and "Order of Ecclesia"?
I adore those games.

Other than that you should play the series where Castlevania got this gameplay from:
Metroid Zero Mission, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion come to mind.
"finished" order of ecclesia or rather i gave up halfway though since my ds L and R button is faulty and its kind of hard to play with the button spoilt.

Abyss Odyssey kind of reminds me more of super smash brawl rather than castlevania and it seems like the replay value isn't that much.

Wait what? I never knew Risky's Revenge came to PC.

Time to hit up the wishlist I guess.

Since Abyss Odyssey is mentioned in this thread I'm just going to post the link here. Yesterday I asked the devs about a GOG release, here's their response:

Hello ACE Team,

Do you have any plans to bring this game on GOG.com? And if not, can you please give a reason why.

The game looks great and being a roguelike it certainly packs some great replay value. I like rougelikes and this would certainly make a nice addition to my collection, however I don't like Steam and DRM in general. Bringing the game to GOG would certainly net you more fans / customers and increased profit.

Thank you for reading.

Dev response:

Unfortunately no. The game works with Steamworks, so there is no way to separate it from Steam.

Shame, this game looks promising.

They lost all my sympathies with this statement.
Of course they could seperate the game from Steamworks. -.-
