I just bought hybrid tablet with 10,1" screen, 1,46 GHz Atom processor, and Windows 8.1. I'm looking for recommendations for games that can be best played with this thing. I don't want carry machine's keyboard around, so given game should be playable without one. I'm not sure do I want have mouse either. Hopefully I can find and buy small trackball. I'd like to play with other people, so recommend me turn-based hot-seat games as well.

Heroes of Might and Magic games should work perfectly. My experience with 3 is rather good (which reminds me that I should continue).

Civilization V is another recommendation, if you have Steam.

Of the non-hot seat department, I have good experiences with Shadowrun Returns (works like a charm on my windows 8.1 tablet) and Machinarium. Not every point & click works well, though. I'd really suggest against playing Resonance and probably other Wadjet Eye games.

How can/do you simulate right clicking on that thing? That's another important factor thet determines what games will work for you. I think HoMM3 should work fine either way, though. I haven't played it in ages but I think the right mouse button is only necessary for easy access to additional information about units and stuff.

Holding for a second simulates a right click. Also, the Surface's pen, for example, has a button to instantaneously do a right click whenever you tap the screen with it.

EDIT: Game devs can also use some APIs to improve touch / pen support for their games. Hearthstone works perfectly, without any emulation or UI changes.

I'm never sure that works properly in games. I remember some issues with a friend's tablet running Windows 8, that one was using a stylus, though. Anyway, there many (if not all) games did not recognize continuous pressure, games would always instantly recognize press + release at every click, making it impossible to drag or to do right clicks the way they work on the Windows desktop.

If it is using the newer APIs that were introduced in 8, then it should, as inputs are now built upon a common framework. If not, then there is little that you can do to make the game more compatible.

It is just a start, the situation will improve as time goes. Adventures, turn-based games, card games, board games, it is so natural to play them with touch. I prefer playing Hearthstone on my Surface than on my laptop, it just feels much better.

Drawing-based games are perfect for touch-input, but this is a small genre. One I remember is CRAYON PHYSICS DELUXE.

I think the tablet ports will be likely candidates. But neither GoG nor MaGog mentions which platform their games originates from.

Adventure games are most likely touch-friendly, even though they are likely to require left-click.

DON'T STARVE
I thought this would be perfect for touch-based input, but unfortunate enough, touch-input is broken in this game. You will need to double-tab to do a normal click.

UNHOLY HEIGHTS
Despite what I would have thought, the game does not play well with touch-input.

TRIPLE TOWN
Very touch-friendly, and a super small download.

ZOMBIE DIARIES
Most of the icons are large enough to be touch-friendly, but some functions requres you to perform a double click (by holding your finger down on the tablet). The game does not support swiping.

REDSHIRTS
Touch-friendly - but had both black border on top and bottom and free space at the sides. This is the kind of failed layout I expect from a VHS rip, not a modern game.

The free 2D physic sandbox Algodoo has some really good tablet support. Just set the input to tablet mode in the menu. The GUI can be upsized to finger-friendliness too. It has two-finger zoom/drag, and the tablets accelerometer can control the direction of gravity. To open the left-click menu: double-tap.

So far I have given test-runs for two games on my tablet. <span class="podkreslenie">Battle for Wesnoth</span> works very well with stylus (broad cushioned end). All right-click menu functions can be accessed from top menu bar. Gonna try Age of Wonders 3 when I find time to download & update the darn thing.

How about Baldur's Gate 2 Enhanced Edition? It's the main reason I am interested in it: being able to play it on my tablet. Has anyone tried it?

Heaviest games (for the hardware) I have tested are <span class="podkreslenie">Pandora</span> and Age of Wonders 3. Both work reasonably well with native resolution (1366x768) and minimal graphical detail. However becouse both games require right-clicking to move units around, 2-button mouse is a must have to play them. If those games can be configured to receive those commands by left-click, please tell me about it. In addition Pandora doesn't handle stylus well. Performance wise 1,46 GHz Atom processor is quite adequate for these games. Pandora doesn't seem to have hot-seat multiplayer though...

<span class="podkreslenie">Battle for Wesnoth</span> works perfectly with stylus alone. Game has right-click menu, but all its functions can be accessed from top menu bar.

I want to clarify that AoW3 does not run smoothly and could be too much to handle for 1,33 GHz Atom unless resolution is reduced. Likewise I make guess that full HD resolution (1920x1080) could be too much for 1,46 GHz Atom. Recommended desktop processor for that game is 2,4 GHz Core 2 Duo. Pandora is easier for the hardware and will likely work on 1,33 GHz Atom as well.

I just bought the 'Horrifying FMV' bundle.
While the games only uses the left mouse key, neither Phantasmogoria nor The 7th Guest were able to detect touch input. (I didn't test the other two games in the bundle, but I suspect that it's the same)
