SimonG: That is by far the worst excuse I've heard for piss poor customer support.
What's next? Configuring EMS for the old school feel?
I actually like the fact that you get the option to patch the game yourself, at least for games with a lot of interesting mods. Patches can (and do) quite often break mod compatibility. (Sometimes fans make de-patchers for this very reason. There is for an example one for Age of Wonders)
But they are a bit inconsistent here. With some games they add a new & up to date version to the main download, and with some they don't. I guess it in the end depends on if they get supplied with the latest version by the publisher.
akhliber: So, if you don't mind my asking, what are your impressions of Gamersgate thus far? I've just stumbled across it within the past couple days and was considering whether or not it was worth signing up.
I know that it was not me you asked, but I find Gamer's Gate to be one of the better Digital Distribution services. Much like GOG, you are not bound by a program that you need to run in the background when playing your games, and at least I usually get a very good download speed from GG (often in the 15-20mbit/s range, though I get even higher speed if I download my games at odd hours, like really early in the morning). Support is also really good, if a bit slow, and you get 5% back on all purchases in the form of blue coins, which can be spent on more games (I usually my blue coins to pay for DLC and really cheap games on sale)
