Your assumption sounds pretty spot on to me :) Fortunately I grabbed Plants VS Zombies for free back in May. Now all I need to do is hop into my time machine and go forward to whichever point in time I have managed to play and finish the game, and then I'll post a review.

Oh my God, this is the most silly thread necromancy I've ever encountered. Not just raising (get it, raise) an old discussion that might still be valid, but being ecstatic over something that's not the case any more for half a year.

I grabbed it when it was gifted on origin, with the "on the house" system. Have not played it. The origin version of the GOTY edition of this game, adds a few new/more cosmetics on the Zombatar.

Best version of it as of yet, is the physical retail disk. It was DRM-FREE, too. It was released in a very few places, though. I was lucky to grab its iso image from somewhere, before the service was law-struck.

Find the physical retail version if possible. Steam version is the worst of all (has issues with graphics and mouse movement), origin itself is like steam... And buying from either stooge of those two, does not help Popcap at all; at least get it from those guys,
