michaelleung: One of those associations for consumer's rights when it comes to video games. When someone tries to pass a law banning violent games sales to minors (*cough* Jack Thompson *cough*), these guys throw money at the lawyers to make it go away. It's also a nice place for networking, because there are services to help find gaming industry jobs, and even HEALTH INSURANCE, and all that stuff. It's fun.

Too bad I agree there *should* be restrictions. The only idea with laws like that is to ban sales DIRECTLY to MINORS, not ban them ENTIRELY. Parents/guardians should be able to have some kind of say in what their kids take in, that's their job. Maybe they will just buy it for them anyway. At least they have the ability to make a conscientious decision.
Oh well, flame on. :)

michaelleung: Wrong. You simply need an address in US or Canada (any address... I used my house there even though I joined in HK). Credit cards can be of any place.

Huh? I tried to activate my account a few days ago, and in the checkout page there's this blurb:
"Your billing information must match the billing address for the credit card entered below or we will be unable to process your payment."

Try your real address (even though it worked without the real address for me). Speaking of those, you can see [url=http://www.theeca.com/users/michaelleung]other's addresses (at least the ones they put in) my guessing profile names. Freaky...
I registered but whet I try go to "Membership Benefits" all I get is "Acces Denied" and I don't know where this code have to be put in...

you have to have them send the verification email, then it will add 1 year of membership to your orders page where you can pay or enter the code.

Okay, thx. It's working now. I forgot about activation at first. Usually there are direct llinks in email, 'copy and paste' rarely :-).

It was fine when you looked up my house in Canada... and yet.

I wasn't looking for your address. I was trying to direct you to your account and suggest the possibility of maybe re-subscribing with the code. I didn't even notice the posted address until you shrieked like a cheerleader. ;)

I didn't shriek like a cheerleader, I shrieked like a banshee. Get your facts right.

EclipsePhase: Saw this elsewhere on the web.
Free full, 1 year ECA membership if you use the code GIMAG when registering. You do need a credit card to sign up, but entering the code on the order screen after verifying your email address will discount the membership fee making the order $0.00.
Among the membership benefits are renewable codes for 10% off Amazon games/software orders and one time use 20% off a GOG.

Awesome! Thanks for the post. I had been on the fence for a while about joining, but with a free one year trial it takes away any reason not to join. :)

That's messed up. Hopefully that's fixed soon.

Don't forget to turn off auto-renew if you're not certain you'll want to keep your membership after one year.

Good tip! I have to say though, now that I'm signed up and enjoying the benefits, I don't think I'll mind renewing. I like the idea that I will be supporting a group fighting for consumer rights.
