jesskitten: Yike. That's a new one I have not come across. With good reason. Thanks for the explanation! Harry Potter's totally a Mafia anyway though. :) Must lynch.

A way to counteract that cryptoclaim I guess would be for all scum to be given a vanilla safeclaim at the start as well (a simple line like "You know that Hermione Granger is not in the game") at the start, but it is kinda weird indeed.

And yeah I guess maybe part of that hypoclaim thing was used because there was the ambiguous nature of the doctor involved in reads. Plus roleblocks.
This cryptoclaiming sounds more like a headache to be honest :p But quite an annoying way for the players to turn the tide in their favour :p

Also, about flavour themed games like a Harry Potter game, I read a pretty good guide on the mafiascum wikia that said you should shuffle the bag, as though the game occured in a parallel universe. Either use minor characters and give the mafia a possible safeclaim with the main characters, or turn the tide so that some badguys are really town, and some goodguys are really scum. Would make it interesting if Voldamort and Harry were actually in cahoots :P

jesskitten: I'd like to propose a rule for discussion too, that you are allowed to edit your post up to a couple minutes after posting, since there's no preview function. While you can't see the exact time, it should be fairly obvious when someone edits it a significant time after the original post.
Goddarnit I hate those stray quote tags and how they mess up a post's readability!

As of this post, I am advertising for somebody to replace me as moderator in Mafia #2. If a replacement cannot be found, I will continue to mod the game until its conclusion, but I wish to have no further interaction with this forum.
Don't leave. I didn't mean to upset you this much. I already said I would stay out of that thread and I meant it.
You're doing great Damuna, for what it's worth, I don't think you should replace out (though it is of course ultimately your choice).

And if only we could have a separate thread for EBWOPs or something, grrr. My reading comprehension late at night = fail.
Lynched twice on one day? I need a stiff drink :P
Hehe. I did read both games when I logged on and 2x saw that. I like your post-doom playstyle too, very fun to read :)

You had to go, you insaniac! Gutting jesskitten like that :O
Anyone seen zchinque?? Waiting for night scene in Mafia #3.......;o)
Not that I'm in the game anymore, but I like that, and it's something GMs should probably consider incorporating into future games (the shortening of deadlines the further into the game it becomes) unless there are a lot of players left or something.

In addition to the above reasons, it also gives the town a more urgent sense of approaching endgame, as well as allow the Mafia to fairly play for a no-lynch day, without having to purposely idle for days and days on end as it gets extended over and over again.

By now, I have contacted you all to discuss your availability during the final stage of the game. If there is anyone who does not expect to be present, I would like to know beforehand; at this point in the game, we cannot afford to have missing players, as their absence is very likely to impact on the game's conclusion. As such, if anyone does not expect to be active, it would be best for them to arrange to be replaced rather than potentially harming their team's chances of victory.

At present, I have not heard from Nazarush, who has mentioned that he is having problems in real life. Nazarush, if these problems are continuing, it would be helpful if you could let me know whether you will need a replacement. (If indeed a replacement is necessary, I might prefer that the role be handed back to Al1, to avoid passing it through too many hands.) If anyone is interested in filling in for a player who needs to be replaced, Please PM me with your willingness; in order to be eligible, you must confirm that you are up to date with the game thread, and that you have no knowledge of the setup.

The deadline for Day 5 will be placed at one week after the day starts, and this will hold true for any further days; it is possible that I will reduce the length of any coming nights to 24 hours to smooth out the gameplay and reduce the feeling of lag that some of you have expressed. I am hopeful that this will allow for the end-game to play out in an unbroken fashion with strong player involvement, but there is unfortunately the possibility for error - as such, I must ask that you do not try to leave your decision-making to the last minute, as there is no way to predict what interruptions other players may experience; I feel this may have weakened the overall experience for many players in GOG Mafia #1 (especially for those more vocal players who had already been eliminated). If, during the coming Day phases, any of you feel that you may need to be absent, I will be happy to extend the deadline by up to a week.

To aid in a quick continuation and resolution of the game, when the Day and Night phases come I will quote you to alert you to the start of that phase.
Sent a PM will cover if needed even if theres a day or 2 left.
I might try a nightless mafia next. Or possibly a Lights Out variant.

Oddly, I didn't receive that PM. Would you care to try again?
Ok resent it, less than I wrote last time though

How does Mafia play in those formats?

As far as I can remember, havent played this in years so i nosed on the wiki

Lights out is when the town can do multiple lynchs per day, they dont find out the results to end of day though. Dependant on the people it can play really well or really badly.

Nightless focuses more on the day actions, though theres usually less roles like cops etc, mafia can get a daykill instead.

Best way to make it quicker would be to give more people kill actions ie sk/1shot/paranoid/bomb/terrorist it usually shortens it as more people die in the earlier days

Hey, baz, seeing as you're next on the hosting list, I was just wondering if you have your setup ready?
