Whoever's doing it isn't upset they're just trolling people who might care about their rep. I don't care about it personally but spending any amount of time accomplishing this mother of all non-accomplishments just strikes me as pathetic.

I'm not a fan of having a downrep option as it feels judgmental and can be genuinely hurtful. There are users of this forum that make a contribution which may be controversial but valid nonetheless.

Having the option to reply and disagree with a post is a clearer reflection of how opinions vary. However, pressing a "-" icon has wider implications as it tarnishes the reputation of an individual for any future post he/she makes. To open a thread and see someone with a rep of -27 (which I think I've seen on this very forum) commenting on an entirely unrelated subject doesn't seem fair.

I may have a simplistic view on the matter but surely if it's causing people distress, which I think few of us are willing to admit, then it should be at least reviewed.

Haven't been on the GOG forums for perhaps a week and just noticed I've been derepped to the tune of -5, for no good reason I can think of. My personal suicidometer, meanwhile, has risen by +5, because of course my very EXISTENCE depends on what others think of my views. The internet was created by an Englishman according to Wikipedia : Tim Berners-Lee. Is this bloke ever troubled by what he has actually done, I wonder ??

Hm, I am sure this script has its own merit, just not for me. Good luck with the project.

I have no problem people downrepping me though. This is just a forum, after all. If you try to be friendly and helpful I'm sure people won't downrep you for no reason. At least here in GOG forum.

People do downrep for no good reason, the sad little ****s. Who are the worst culprits ? I'm setting myself up for a major downrepping here but I'll say that in the main it's pissy*little American brats. There are plenty of intelligent and pleasant Americans on the internet but they are probably outnumbered by their reject compatriots. Every day it's like this for these simpletons :

1. Wake up.
2. Get angry.
3. Put the world to rights, frequently using words such as "faggot", "bullshit"etc.
4. Go to sleep.
5.Fail to develop a sense of humour.
6. Rinse and repeat.

* Pissy is an American word which I like, so thanks for that ! It's not very surprising that you had to coin this word, however, since it seems to describe a psychiatric illness which afflicts American kids in particular.

And don't forget, btw, that the customer is always wrong. On the GOG forums it is advisable to put yourself in the position of the seller rather than the customer, even if you are a customer and you are only shafting yourself by doing so. This is, after all, the stance which all the bigwigs on GOG take. You must let yourself be patronised by these bigwigs because they have reps of 1000+ and therefore they are BOUND to be right about everything.

You're on the GOG forums, of course you're going to find people who like GOG and prefer it over anything else.

Seriously, though, I can see why they do because I can't think of any other store which would reverse a store policy based on customer feedback, so credit where credit is due!

That's not what 'm alluding too though. I'm a big GOG fan in these days of DRM. I'm talking about certain individuals with high reps on here who say that they are gamers but who think and talk - judging by their opinions on the way the industry operates - as if they were publishers / developers. This is a very strange stance indeed in my opinion (as a gamer and a mere customer). But people see a high rep and they think it means that these posters are automatically right.

To elaborate : if I am your customer you dance to MY tune. If you don't dance to my tune you go out of business, simple as that. So why are there posters on here with reps of 1000+ who claim not to be employed in the games industry but who - weirdly - argue from the point of view of the seller ? It requires an explanation, I think you must agree.

It's not anymore different than people justifying the plays of their favourite athletes in some game- they're fans.

As for high rep biasing people, I disagree- on average, you can observe people of all reps discussing normally with each other. You even see people letting chronically derepped members enter/win giveaways.

Essentially, rep is meaningless, but the more you care about it/talk about it, the more likely you are to get derepped.
